Gaming FF IV Problem

I'm currently playing FF IV, and I'm up to the part where I have to go to the Lunar Subterrane...

I have to go up the stairs in the Crystal Castle map, but whenever I try to enter, the screen blacks out, and all I hear is the music. Is there a way to fix this?

:< I want to finish the game so badly...

EDIT: I fixed the problem. It seems FF IV is the only game where you can't rom-trim :>
