A team by the name of Azure Productions is currently working on a sequel to the Mother franchise. Current release date is unknown but speculated to be sometime this year.

Cool!
As long as it retains the same feel as the first three games.

And BTW, I seriously doubt you even take the time to read your own sources.

Coming out this year?, sorry but I've followed that blog for two years now and if anyone speculated a release date of this year they really just pulled it out of their ass. The development team's been doing a great job on the occasional work they post about, but many essential things have yet to even implemented yet from what I can tell. :(

Yeah. I wouldn't hold my breath for this.

I assume it'll be finished eventually, but I wouldn't bet on this decade.

Gotta love the graphics style. Feels very Mother-like.

I hope the story will be as good as the graphics are.

(and then 1 month before release, Itoi announces Mother 4 just to troll this project)

Impressive- usually such things get C&Ded out of existence as soon as they gain something resembling traction (kind of have to for trademark purposes). Granted I imagine a search and replace with the new name being Mater would probably happen upon such an event.

I love how in the majority of threads here one person will say something and then a hoard of other people will come in and say the exact same thing like the first comment was invisible.

Either way, I've been following this for quite some time and have been heavily interested in playing it. I doubt it'll be nearly on par with the level of greatness that Mother 3 holds, but I'm not counting it out yet.

Isn't Nintendo the company that supports these things? I remember hearing them support the Mother 3 fan translation and other fan projects, saying that those projects can keep going as long as they don't try to profit from their stuff.

If they did it is news to me- Nintendo have always said they dislike emulation and "backups" as a general company policy. Various members of the dev teams and such might have given a supportive nod but that amounts to very little if you wind up in front of the beak.

Perhaps more importantly there is a difference between the likes of a fan translation (which would likely come under copyright and can reasonably safely be ignored as a company without much risk of anything bad happening if you reckon it is net positive) and this sort of thing which is more likely to fall under trademark law (using the identifiable name and art design of a product to make a new product) and as various courts around the world have ruled if you do not actively defend your trademarks they are rendered void they probably would want to stop it- if you want a nice example see some of the stuff the red cross had to do with health packs on various games*.

* http://www.idsoftware.com/iphone-games/wolfenstein-3d-classic-platinum/wolfdevelopment.htm has a tiny bit on it but search around for red cross trademark and you should find some good stuff.

Welcome to the internet :P I done lost count about how many times people just repeat what has already been said for their +1 post...

I don't really have high hopes for this, what with all my exposure to fan-creations and how they tend to be skewed heavily away from the original (though it could be argued that the perception is simply because much of art is down to interpretation amd multiple people will interpret things differently)... but I wish they wouldn't call it "Mother 4" like it's official or something.

One person having known about a project for a while is a different situation than a bunch of people having known about it. People will often back eachother up to prove a point, that it's not just the first poster that's in a specific situation or has a specific view. I agree that in some cases here it's just people finding an excuse to rage, but in many of the cases it's normal for people to agree on a point and post about it.

Either way, I've been following this for quite some time
Picture-perfect example of hypocrisy. :P

You know what, Rydian. I think you're a cool guy and I'm not going to get into this with you and break down my own post.

I just found it funny that you complain about everybody repeating what's been posted, and then you do it.

No amount of breaking down your post could make that false. :P
