Long story short: Got a ps3 with YLOD, saved it, update from 4.xx to 4.78. I didn't know till now that modding is only good on OFW 3.55. Best way to downgrade?

There are two types of phat ps3's. NOR and NAND types. NOR ps3's are actually not too hard to downgrade, but you will need to buy an e3 flasher. NAND ps3's are a pain in the butt. Also, as of right now there is no software solution for the downgrade, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

how can I tell if its nand or nor

All PS3 Phats are NAND.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also it isn't worth it to hack a PS3 Phat. They overheat pretty quickly on a OFW and CFW simply makes it impossible to play for at least 1 or 2 hours. The reason for this is because OFW is a stable firmware built by Sony and CFW is unstable and many things run on a CFW causes it to heat quickly. Even if you use fan control that can be dangerous and can break it even more...

Whoops. I think I mistook it for the PS3 Slim, but anyones someone should take in to regard what I said afterwards...

yes, all slims r nor. the op should go with a slim just to be safe, but the fan app might make that irrelevant. if u have the fan on medium, let's say, a phat probably won't fail on u.

True. Well I said all I could. It's up to the OP now...

if you cant do it yourself or cant find cheap a progskeet or teensy, you can think about it.
i watched a guide for downgrade a phat with nand on youtube, its not a job you can do fast or forget things.

my thing is that I can not solder for the life of me. If theirs a way I can without soldering then I could give it a shot. If not I might as well pay someone 30$ or so

Soldering is your only option. It really isn't some small wire you have to connect to some small port the wires are quite big so I don't think you would have any troubles, but if you wanna be safe and don't wanna break your console then sending it may be your only option. Oh yeah btw I am 11 and I did it...

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
