What Media have people used that works and what media have people used that hasn't worked?

It partly depends on what chip you have, but for the most part, any decent media will do. DVD-R is currently more compatible overall.

What is more important then what media you use, is what burner you have. It doesn't matter if you have good media, if your burner is crap.

I'm not 100% sure it's a media problem, but I would not buy Maxell DVD+R again.

I'm using panasonic dvd-r 16x. They are Taiyo Yuden media and seem to be working really well with my wiikey.

im using tdk dvd-r 1-16 speed, no problems as of yet

i also tried some cheapo LG discs, they didnt work

Using Sony+R, burned @ 4x w/ Nero 7, On wiinja Deluxe, No DRE's Ever!!

I know that both TraxData and Verbatim (-R) works just fine.

Fake Ritek Ridata Dvd-R I got for $0.18 a piece work "OK" with Wiikey at 8x.

Got 2 DRE in Zelda (played about 12h) but a simple eject/insert and it was still going fine

Work good for full size Gamecube Dvd too

2 tests:

Burner: Matshita UJ-820S (Acer Aspire 1714SMI laptop)

Media: Verbatim DVD-R 16X

Results: Many DREs on every single game (Writing speed 4X)


Burner: External LG LightScribe GSA-E10L USB 2.0 (Connected to the Aspire Laptop)

Media tested: Verbatim DVD-R 16X and Verbatim DVD-RW

Results: Absolutely no DREs in any disk and writing speed maxed (16X for DVD-R and 4X for DVD-RW)

ive tried a whole varieties of DVD-Rs @ 4x and all of them worked perfectly with no DREs...

Strange. The guy that installed my Wiikey gave me Wario Ware Smooth Moves on an Office Depot dvd-r and it works great. He used a Pioneer 111D.

I have the same drive, with the modded firmware. Using Taiyo Yuden media (8x DVD+Rs) burnt at 8x and 12x, my Call of Duty 3 game keeps skipping (it skips less at 12x) at the introduction video. I'm frankly quite puzzled that generic dvd-rs from Office Depot would work better than TYs which are supposed to be the most reliable brand.

I'm going to try a spindle of 16x Verbatim -Rs. Hope they work better for me.

Edit: Verbatim -Rs are working perfectly. Now I wish I knew why the TY +Rs aren't working right.

RitekG04 worked on 5 out of 5 burns at 4x so far. Haven't tried 8x yet
