Let me explain, to be honest the DSi operating system is really stupid for me, that's because it doesn't have an kernel on it, and the operating system is just an bootcode (maybe an chip like the Nintendo Wii) who launchs the app "Launcher" when you turn it on, and it's really easy to find vulnerabilities on it, like the PIT.BIN exploit and unlaunch's boot code exploit, but the most difficult things is to install apps on the default home menu, i guess here it's not an bullshit anymore.... because to install homebrew apps it's not easy as expected you need Unlaunch's patches or an CFW, but thanks to nocash and @Pk11 is possible install DSi Titles on the DSi Menu (only with unlaucnh patches) that's my opinion on the DSi OS

It's easy to say such things about a 17 year old handheld but it was pretty alright for its time.
It had a software exploit back in the day but not many people could take advantage of it.
It's only since Nintendo abandoned the DSi that hacking exploded on it and things unlaunch/CFW & stupidly simple softsploits appeared.

Nah. The bootloader is signed with a unique key, the launcher app + tmd + ticket are all signed with unique keys (along with every other installed title), and even the font data and photos are signed with a unique key. Tickets for paid titles are locked to your device only. The region and serial info is signed and unchangable. The DSi's ES library was forked from the Wii one, so they fixed every exploit there like fakesigning (thankfully missed ticket validation). Modifying any titles even with unlaunch is absolutely painful, and the slightest mistake make the launcher delete or hide the title. Nobody was able to figure out ntrboot until the signing key was leaked.

We only have unlaunch because the 3DS was hacked, and nintendo resused the stage2 bootloader in TWL_FIRM.

Exploits have taken a long time to find and develop. Sure you can hack the DSi in two seconds now, but nintendo put up a damn good fight. And there are still things that nobody is able to work around with hacks... got a corrupted NAND? Good luck replacing the firmware. Serial/region is tied to the CPU and signed, so if that file is lost then you've got very few options. You can try factory firmware (menuless prototype, boots carts only) but that barely works. You can add unlaunch to this, but you're basically forever locked out of some system software, and without unlaunch you're bricked.

End drunk rant.

Greatest handheld of all time my ass.
yeah the DSi was peak gaming, because it had more features, and it wasn't an bricked ass who can only open Slot-1 and Slot-2, pictochat, Ds download play like DS lite/fat (but they are great too)
