A year ago I bought dsLITE. I play it occasionally. It's hard for me to find games that will keep me interested for a few hours in a row. I tend to play in short sessions. Maybe you can recommend some cool games?

Back to the topic. I like the pocketability of dsLITE, but the screen is a little too small for me. That's why I'm considering an additional purchase.
1) dsi XL

2) dsi normal

1) The dsi xl has much larger screens than the dsLITE. But I'm afraid of big pisels and blurred screen. I know that the XL model loses on pocketability, which is a minus for me.

2) Maybe the golden mean would be dsi NORMAL? Screens are larger than dsLite and the pocketability of the console is retained. On the other hand, buying the same equipment with only a slightly larger screen, I don't know if it makes sense. Especially since I'm not sure if the dsi normal screen is a big upgrade over the dsLite.
Can you help me decide?

The non-XL model does seem to meet your requirements of having a screen that is a little bit larger but the console still being pocketable.

You are absolutely correct that a slightly larger screen is in general an insufficient reason to upgrade, but you have told us in your post that this is a feature that is important to you!

I love how big the DSi XL is. While it might be hard to put it in your pocket and carry it around, it still has a pretty decent display for DS games. I love it! As far as I know, the top cover (where the camera is) is glossy so it might get scratched over time. DSi, at the very least, has matte top cover so it should be a bit more resistant to scratches. That is, if you even care about that. All in all, feature-wise, they are both pretty good options. I was surprised to see that DSi XL is as big as new 3DS XL model (just a bit smaller top screen).

If the DS Lite's screens are just a tad too small but you like the pocketability, the non-XL DSi should be a perfect fit.

Time passes and I still wonder what should I buy, original DSi or DSI xl
Maybe you can hold it in your hand in some retro game store near you or a friends place or you really buy both. Or check out more Videos that show the difference... If you are a tall person it ergonomically makes more sense to have the XL, I had every instance of DS, I liked the size of the regual Lite and DSi also, there is nothing wrong about it. The XL is just so much nice imho, when I first saw it somewhere, my own DS felt instantly almost shitty compared to the XL. ^^
Battery life is also a plus.

DSi XL, it has a better (has IPS, compared to TN DSi has) & bigger screen, has better battery 9-10hrs of non-stop gameplay at the minimum (seriously one of things i love about it, way better than the 3ds btw).. So to me the decision is easy, unless you're going for the form factor alone and at that point just go with the DS Lite which is the smaller one anyway

I checked gameplay videos

Both of them (dsi and dsi xl) look great

but I'm afraid of visible pixels on XL. On the other hand, I doubt that dsi nonxl screen be a big update compared to ds lite

2D games will look great on the DSi XL, minus being no GBA slot...
3D games on the DS never looked very good anyway.
There is no blur, it's very sharp, for better and worse. The lack of any texture filtering in DS games, as opposed to for example the N64, makes the low texture resolution very obvious. And IMO makes Super Mario 64 DS look much worse than the original. Anyway, the screen resolution is the same so there should not be any blur.
I don't think there's any point in the normal DSi, as someone who owns an OG 3DS and a small n3DS, a small increase in screen size is not noticeable. And it's not worth giving up the GBA slot for.

I prefer my regular DSi over my DSi XL a little, mostly due to the portability and the screen is of slightly higher quality than a regular DS Lite. However I do still use the XL regularly because it does make text heavy games with small fonts easier to read, and the slightly bigger pixel size does help with making a few things in games easier to see.
Stuff like small details in textures or sprites for example.

If I had to pick just one of the 3 I would almost certainly pick the DSi due to the mix of features like screen size, DSi Ware games, ability to run GBA games and tons of emulators off of the internal SD card.
However if you have a DS Lite already and don't mind rocking both then I would go with the XL. Because then you can swap to the XL for games where you would rather have a bigger screen, even if you have to carry the thing in a backpack instead of your pocket, and use the DS Lite whenever maximum portability is important.

For example, I am currently playing through Pokemon Black on my DSi, which I bring with me whenever I'm outside the house. At home it's Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow on my DSi XL because the art just pops more and is easier to see on those big screens.

Pretty sure you don't lose quality on DSi XL.
So I'd recommend getting the XL, premium feel and plays DS games well! Id recommend Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story for the DS, best RPG!

For me, moving from the DS Lite to a DSi is a huge downgrade, as you lose all Game Boy Advance games. Those mean more to me than the shitty DSiWare or a slightly larger screen ever will.
Memory pit allows you to play GBA as well plus DSiWare and a larger screen!

I have never cared for any DSiWare, so that's a moot point to me, and many of my favorite GBA games like Pokemon Pinball R+S, Drill Dozer, etc. (and homebrew GBA games like Apotris, Goodboy Galaxy, etc.) use rumble cartridges... DSi can't give me that. But you do you.

Yeah, I see your point... OP, if you like playing GBA games, stick with DS Lite, otherwise, go for the DSi XL.

If you are keeping your lite: there isn't really any reason to buy the regular DSi, the DSi XL is the only worthy upgrade.

The games, this topic can fill the whole site with opinions:
Advance wars, mario kart, pokemon black 2, kirby, elite beat agents, Zelda...

I don't recommend the DS family of systems because they easily break and the screen are fragile and are susceptible to vignetting unlike the modern screens. I know the DS family has great screens for DS games but the hassle ain't worth it tbh. I have both DS Lite and a near mint DSi XL kept in a box. I recommend to go over the 3DS instead or the OG 3DS which has better build quality.
