Hacking DSi Action replay on 3DS

So I was thinking of buying a DSi Action replay to use on Black / White 2 to pokegen, but does DSi still work on the newest version of 3ds? (8.1.0-19U)

I was thinking of ordering a R4i save dongle, and still prefer that, but if i can just go to the store and pick up a Action replay, that seems much easier on me, but do not feel like having to return it if it dosnt work..

TL;Dr Does DSi Work on latest 3DS version?

I think datel stopped updating the dsi version a long time ago (iirc the last firmware they supported was 4.x)

I have been down this path before of trying to get my old AR DSi to work in my 3DS to no avail.

From what i gather only certain AR DSi's can be updated via firmware to work on 3DS. Mine was too old i think.

Ah well no stress here coz I still have my trusty DS lite for cheats which has outlived my DSi!
