Not targeted at the traditional DQ fan
It's extremely simple and easy to advance in the game
It seems like this DQ was expected to draw in the Pokemon
demographic, so they concentrated more on elementary school students
rather than DQ fans.
Even in terms of characters
you're always followed by a character named Sandy,
who talks and acts like a ganguro and is really annoying.
This is just my opinion but I feel that she destroys the image that's been built up for
the DQ series. I wonder if this kind of character appeals to children? I have no idea.
I guess pre-adolescent kids with no preconceived notions of DQ would enjoy this.

I have to agree that I hate the way Sandy speaks in the game, and her cutesy, overly-upbeat song just doesn't appeal to me.
Reading all of the 1-star reviews, it seems that most of them were expecting a lot more challenging game from Level 5. They say that it's too short, and that they were also looking forward to Wi-Fi play, not ad hoc connection. And a lot of traditional DQ fans actually enjoy grinding. There's no casino, no traps in the dungeons, etc. The list goes on.
I hope this doesn't mean that they won't bring this title outside of Japan.
