ROM Hack Dragon Quest IX menu translation

1. Download an unpatched DQ9 rom
2. Put it in a folder (and give it any name other than DQ9.nds)
3. Download both of the things from the links in the quoted post.
4. Download the fix (sorry, couldn't find link to the fix anymore... hope you have it or can find it yourself)
5. Put them in the same folder, and extract if necessary (may need Winrar for it, which you probably already have)
6. Start up "xdeltaUI"
7. Make sure you're on the "apply patch" tab
8. For "patch", select "dq9_patch1.patch.xdelta"
9. For "source file", select the DQ9 rom.
10. For "output file", name it DQ9.nds
11. Select the "patch" button. A 0 kb file is created, but after waiting 10-30 seconds, it will be around 230 MB and you should get the message that it was a success.
12. Use the fix.

After that, it should work. I hope it helps.

Okay, I get all that...but the problem I had is your very last step lol. Came to the same output. I got the clean rom, patched it with this translation (which does create a 0 file and then turns into a file about 229ish). However, when I go to apply the fix, instead of patching it then gives me a patched.nds file which is 0kb and stays 0.

So, maybe its the fix patch? Here is the fix I found and used:

It gives me 3 files:
1. cvn-dq9-patch (MS-DOS Batch File -- used to auto execute and apply the patch)
2. cvn-dq9-patched.fix (FIX File)
3. xdelta (which I guess the msdos file uses to patch, dunno Im a noob)

So, when I try to use the MSDOS to patch the fix into the newly made translation copy, it does not work properly I guess. It gives me the 0kb patched file...I dont know if it is b/c the translation one trims the rom or what. Lol, good stuff

Ah, that's the problem probably. I used a different fix. It was on the 3rd page of this topic, I think. Could've been 2nd. But the link seems to have been erased because Japanese bloggers uploaded it without permission. It simply came in a rar that contained a readme and a file named patch.

I don't get why people have so much trouble patching.
miss_dslite is no longer credited, since even though she did post HERE the translations of the skill names, she actually stole them from a GameFAQs user called Prophane33, so, instead s/he is now credited.

You've got senwaki in the field menu, but its not wa.. it's re.

Whoops.
I think senreki is something like combat experience.
I always seem to confuse similar looking characters like wa & re and since I couldn't find what senwaki means I just deduced it was Sandy, my bad!
I'll edit the OP right away.
Since combat experience is too long instead I translated it as Combat log... though that's not quite right since that option includes Alchemy too.

Yes, I know because of the font you can't put many letters on the translations, so if you need to shorten/use a synonym just do it

A friend of mine told me that their problem is that you see the weapons, accessoires, shields, boots, and so on equipped on your character...

What other kanji did you need help with?

Well... most kanji actually, mainly because I suck at counting strokes or radicals, which is the usual way of finding their meanings.
But in that menu specifically(which you can also acces by pressing Y), the first kanji of the Felled monster list, and the 4 kanjis of the option above Quest list.
Also, I've been translating monster names(which have no kanji on them YAY!), and they have some pretty wackyy names

They're all talking about how cheap and un-DQ-like it feels - very weak and disjointed, boring battles, and lots of oversights like no Wi-Fi and only one save slot that add up to a poor experience. A lot of them couldn't put up with it long enough to finish the game.

I believe some people here need to practice their reading skills, BECAUSE I'VE MADE NO PATCH, I'VE ONLY TRANSLATED, THE PATCHES ARE MADE BY NOITORA AND DONELWERO, AND YES, THERE'S PROBABLY A WAY TO COMBINE THEM BUT NO, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO, DONElWERO'S TRYING TO DO IT.
