Does it update automatically, or can it be just avoided and installed at will, like on the 3DS? I'm asking, because I really like the online features of the Wii U, I use the Internet Browser and Miiverse a lot, and recently I got into Mario Maker and Splatoon, both of which heavily rely on Internet connection. The last System Update was on Summer, so it's getting more and more likely, that we're going to get an update. I'm actually looking forward to it, because the 5.5.0 exploit then will finally be released with either a FW Version Spoof or an emuNand.

Even if I press Cancel on the prompt and disable Power Off Downloads?
that is the thing there is no cancel option when a system update is downloaded the wiiu will just isntall the system update on boot you wanting it or not there is no cancel prompt also disabling downloads in the settings doesnt stop system updates at all.

yes it does block the update servers while letting all other servers work.
Beautiful! Now I can continue using my console normally, without having to be afraid of the fixes!

And when the time comes... It will be even more awesome. *evil laugh*:rofl2:

Yes, they can and will. I see the OP's question was eventually resolved, but if this is read by another user it should be answered.
Yes even if you cancel the prompt and disable power off downloads. IOS does not care that you do not wish to update. If the update is "system critical" aka exploit patching a specific url requests a handshake with IOS(which only shuts off by no power IE no power cord and battery removed from console) and IOS bypasses all user commands. Did you know IOS can run and update without the light on the front changing from red to orange?
Tubehax appears to currently be the second best functional resolve for this issue. (first best is not have any connection to the internet)
As one console gets burned by missing a url needing blocked the url will be added to the thread here at gbatemp.

Just a quick question: Does the TubeHax DNS block game updates?
well yes becuase you cant install the game updates without having the latest fw available, wiiu will always check system version before even downloading the game update, the way to update games is to do an offline update with the wup installer.

I'm on the latest FW, so what does that mean? Can I update my games or not :/

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

Remember when RiiShop was a thing?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    not really
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
