Hacking Do I really need to block updates with DNS or blocking nintendo's servers?

This is probably a really noob question but I just got my Wii U. On the settings there's an option to block updates when the console is off, so... isn't that enough to be safe from future updates?

Nope that's not enough. It will still download and install updates unless you block it another way

You can just not, since i'm pretty sure Nintendo won't release a new update since the Wii U's dead.
i won't count on it. sony released new update for the psp years after the last update when sony already ended it's production. nintendo can do the same. you can't know for sure.

It's hard to say for sure when firmware support for a system ends. If Nintendo really wanted to couldn't they update the Wii despite the system being well over a decade old now?

I'd say a year from now is a safe bet for the Wii U to be done with updates but even that's not a guarantee.

the console will download the update, but won't update itself if you disable standby functions in the settings menu.
if it prompts you to update, just shut it down and turn it back on and the nag will go away.

I really doubt the Wii U has any more updates coming, I mean if it didn't receive one for Zelda, I can't imagine anything else would warrant an update. The only kind of update I can imagine is when they start killing features they may issue an update to remove them from your home screen/menu.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
