@tueidj Will Devolution ever support running retail games off of a disc when Wii Remote support is released? Sometimes friends or family come over with their disc, I'd love to be able to play something like Kirby's Air Ride or Mario Kart DD with Wiimotes or Classic Controllers, without having to rip it. :)

I'd also be more than happy to test it: I've got plenty of GC Games, two Wiimotes, Classic controllers. :) I'm only missing a Wii Remote Plus and a Classic Controller Pro (I'd better pick one of those up... gamecube games on those would be BOSS)

Well, I just dumped a boatload of games and I'm very impressed with tueidj's work. Most of the glitches are with 2D graphics and only one or two games with audio issues. I'm sorry, I don't have a USB Gecko for debugging, but I thought my brief testing might be useful for others;

Perfect (from my limited testing)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition
The Simpsons Hit and Run

Glitchy
Baten Kaitos ― Black screen after FMV intro
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ― Static instead of audio, glitched 2D graphics
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance ― Minor graphical glitches on character avatars during discussions
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes ― Minor graphical glitches and audio static on inventory screen
Metal Gear Solid ― Doesn't get past Konami splash
Tales of Symphonia ― Minor glitches on status screen
Zelda Wind Waker ― Minor graphical glitches
Sonic Heroes ― Splash screen and menu graphical glitches

Crap
Star Wars Bounty Hunter ― Exit back to HBC
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within ― Black screen with constant disc light

Just dumping the rest now, as well as scanning some full covers for GameTDB (if you see your game on the list in UK/PAL region, check for new covers in the next few days).

Hmm....wonder if Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and Simpsons Hit and Run NTSC versions work ok, two games I may be in the hunting to purchase to try I guess....

Somone needs to open a compatibility list somewhere or something that can be edited and updated by users.....maybe something similar to the dios mios lite one that is available.....would be really useful for users so they can figure out what games to test and maybe help people decide what games are worth buying and using with devo.....good job guys, can't say it enough......

I was finally able to find my GC games at home (well three of them, one of which I can't use since it requires a GBA). While I was unable to dump my copy of Wind Waker (it kept failing, I guess it's too scratched), I was able to get it "elsewhere" and verify it with the disc.

I can now verify that Devolution does work with 64KB clusters! :D

Edit: I just noticed that the last two of my three hearts on Wind Waker aren't displayed correctly. It's hard to describe what they look like, but if you need me to I can take a picture.

I'm pretty sure that glitch happens when you lose hearts. Instead of displaying the empty heart graphic, it displays the full heart with a glitchy looking "box" around it. At least, that's what it looks like on my PAL version.

It happens all the time on my NTSC-U version. I've also noticed that movement can be laggy and the buttons are sometimes textured wrong.

Sounds like a video issue, either caused by a bad loader or possibly your TV not liking 240p mode.

I only use your standard loader :)

Both of them work fine when run from the retail disc, and I do remember them working before with r94. I did post a log for you on page 53.

Thanks for the inspired work, tueidj. I know daxtsu posted a log of the Metroid Prime Player's Choice version frigate crash, but I have the DOL-GM8E-0-00 JPN version:

You can do the trick we mentioned earlier to unlock the card to then dump the saves with GCMM, I believe. That way you only have to do it the one time and then go with virtual memory cards and never look back :)
Mine's the official Nintendo of America one. The grey one that fits in all the GC cases.
Here's the app I used.. http://code.google.c.../downloads/list
Also heres a raw dumped memory card too if it saves anybody time.. http://www.mediafire...he3120ez23mu53v
Just open up Dolphin MC manager, find where the card is placed and open it, then delete the SSBM save that's already on it, import your saves on there and don't forget to rename it to memcard.bin after you close it.
When your done, just transfer it to where your virtual MC is and overwrite it

I know this was from a WAY back (page wise) - but just for what it's worth, thats the same app I used before when trying (tried it again) and even made sure to open the card in the Wii Memory Manager 1st. My cards are the official NOA black ones, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but still no luck with getting that - or any - app to read them for dumping the games off (Which was a known issue way back when the apps were made/released).

Not a big deal for me since they are read just fine by Devo/DM for all my titles.
I may still tinker around with it though since you got yours working. Almost wondering if comparing a SysCheck readout from your system against mine would show anything since the d2x v6->v9 upgrade fixed my other issue with loaders.

Due to a bug in libogc, if you're doing the unlock-using-the-system-menu-beforehand trick to try using your first party memory card in other apps it is recommended to first unlock the card using slot B, then unlock it in slot A and leave the card in there. This has no effect for Devolution, only other memory card apps like gcmm and ctr-gcs.

Big thanks to you "tueidj" :yay:

Devolution is a really great program which I thought was impossible to do because of the starting problems of DIOS MIOS (back in 2010 i believe), the release of a lite version of it (DIOS MIOS Lite) and the final release of DIOS MIOS with the limitation to 32KB Cluster size.

With Devolution there's no such limitations. :)

What could be improved is the compatibility. I hope that comes with later revisions :)

The compatibility issues for my games (all PAL games) are:
  • Baten Kaitos (doesn't work in Devolution but in DIOS MIOS)
  • Donkey Konga (does work in Devolution with graphic issues (Main-Menu-Text and textures sometimes have the wrong color) but the game is playable; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • Donkey Konga 2 (does work in Devolution with graphic issues (Main-Menu-Text and textures sometimes have the wrong color) but the game is playable; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (doesn't work in Devolution and in DIOS MIOS with small graphic issues)
  • F-Zero GX (doesn't work in Devolution (hangs in the Video-Mode-Select-Screen where you can choose between PAL-50 and PAL-60) but works in DIOS MIOS)
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (doesn't work in Devolution and DIOS MIOS)
  • Metroid Prime 1 (does work in Devolution with graphic issues (mainly text))
  • Metroid Prime 2 (does work in Devolution with graphic issues (mainly text) and sound problems (sometimes a really loud noise))
  • Phantasy Star Online Eps. 1&2 (doesn't work in Devolution and DIOS MIOS)
  • Pokémon XD (doesn't work in Devolution but in DIOS MIOS)
  • P.N. 03 (does work in Devolution with small graphic issues right at the beginning, but in the game theres no problem; in DIOS MIOS it is a unplayable graphical mess)
  • Resident Evil 0 (does work in Devolution with graphic issues (Main-Menu-Text not visible, textures sometimes have the wrong color or ar simply non-existent))
  • Shadow the Hedgehog (does work in Devolution with graphic issues (Main-Menu-Text and textures sometimes have the wrong color) but the game is playable; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • Sonic Heroes (similar to the issues in Shadow the Hedgehog but in-game not as bad as it; again: in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • Sonic Riders (textures sometime have the wrong color; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • Super Smash Bros Melee (graphic issues with some textures (Stages, Characters) and on the Stage-Select-Screen; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (textures sometimes have the wrong color or ar simply non-existent; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (HUD-textures sometimes have the wrong color, In-Game-Map non-existent except the zoomed out big one in the menu; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (HUD-textures have the wrong color; in DIOS MIOS it rans perfect without issues)
  • Viewtiful Joe 2 (hangs when you enter the game, menu works fine; in DIOS MIOS it is a unplayable graphical mess)

The other games I tested work fine, which are:
  • 1080°: Avalanche
  • Animal Crossing
  • Crazy Taxi
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
  • Doshin the Giant
  • Eternal Darkness
  • Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
  • Harvest Moon - A Wonderful Life
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
  • Pikmin
  • R:Racing
  • Resident Evil
  • Sonic Adventure DX
  • Sonic Adventure Adventure 2 Battle
  • Sonic Mega Collection
  • Soul Calibur II (PAL)
  • Soul Calibur II (NTSC/U)
  • STAR WARS: Rebel Strike - Rogue Sqadron III
  • STAR WARS: Rogue Leader - Rogue Sqadron II
  • Starfox Adventures
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Tales of Symphonia
  • The Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Master Quest
  • Wario World
  • Wave Race: Blue Storm
  • Winnie Pooh
The implementation of Anti-Piracy is also no big deal for me. I had to re-rip all my GameCube games (because the ISOs for DIOS MIOS were all shrunk), so after the rip I had to leave the disc in the slot for the verification and than put it back in the shelf.

And for the people there pissed off of the AP: The only game I bought again was "Animal Crossing" (hair-line crack), with the others I had no problem. The excuse: "I borrowed ALL my GameCube games to my friends" (or similar) are simply not true.

Finally I can use one HDD for all games (Wii, GC, PS3) ;)

One question to you "tueidj": Is the source code updated together with the sample loader (which is currently r101)? Because I use Devolution in conjunction with USB Loader GX r1197 (loader.bin) and not the sample loader.

The sample loader source is updated as well (the loader.bin is r101 also).
