Loading the N64 core seems to hang on a black screen for me, I tried Mario 64 and Smash Bros.

N64 core? Ish just got real
Do NOT expect us to provide much support for this while we still don't have a working graphics API to work with. If it's running at <1FPS, then that's the point.

The fact that is runs games at all is a huge step. :)

For most cores the emulation works suprisingly well considering the lack of hardware acceleration.

But in this case specifically, we won't provide any more support -- Angrylion is infamous for basically requiring a high-end desktop CPU to run at even 1x speed, and nothing more can be done there.
So, again, until we get HW acceleration, a HW-accelerated plugin for Libretro that gets upstreamed, and a re-port of Mupen/ParaLLEl that runs with said HW-acceleration...

Hi ! I've always use "standalone" emulators so I have a few technical questions about Retroarch.

1) Is it possible to have a more advanced UI ? I mean, not now, but in the future. is retroarch supporting UI like the Snesmini UI or whatever ?

2) Will the current cores (Snes/GB/...) have benefits from HW acceleration ?
For what i've seen, emulation is currently perfect, but I don't know, decrease audio latency or anything else ?

3) Not retroarch related but, we all agree, for any homebrew, pressing the home button means killing the app, right ?

Thank you :)

Dang we got a smart one over here (no sarcasm!)

1.) Later on more advanced UI will be avaiable, tho I want to sophisticate my nxrgui way more, that includes smth like snesmini style UI being possible (fuck you XMB)

2.) Eh, will have rather less benefit for those I think we got our latency down on the threaded driver <20?ms @lifajucejo

Well, bedtime for me.

I couldn't agree more. I hate the fucking XMB. I hated it on the PSP/PS3, and I hated that Retroarch decided that this horrid looking piece of shit design should be in their software. Its fucking ugly.

Not that it even was that bad, conceptually or mechanically. . .

Much prefer GLUI, personally.

Same. I much prefer the GLUI look of Retroarch. I'd be happy sticking with this and enabling custom themes for it. (Backgrounds, font colors, etc...)

It's a personal preference of mine. Nothing wrong with it exactly. I just don't like the aesthetics.
That's fair enough, you just made it out to sound like the devil or something :P I haven't actually tried any of the other GUIs except for rGUI, but I should definitely get around to doing it.

At least I like the menu structure in XMB having the playlists at the right end of the horizontal head menu. I'm just switching to the pixel icon theme everytime.
However I'm completely fine with how RetroNX looks like at the moment. Love the boot screen and the menu adjustments. Takes me straight to the 80's. Where's Hasselhoff?

i just tested a bunch of ps1 games with pcsx rearmed and was just blown away, damn/ for the last time i checked the state of ps1 emu was a month ago and it was horrible.. now all of the games i tested run very good, almost always 60 fps with some drops to 50 and occasional sound crackling but they are fully playable. For the record i tested CTR, Rayman 2, toy story 2 buzz to the rescue, crash warped, medievil, re2 dualshock, castlevania sotn. I played each for 10-15 min, so i cant claim them to be 100% playable.

And just wanted to thatnk devs for that!

Hi,
I'm trying to run the DosBox core with RetroNX 0.9.7 but when I select an .exe or .bat the switch crash and I have to restart.
I tested several games including Doom which is supposed to work.
Other cores such as SNES or PSX work very well, so the problem must come from the core or a bad configuration.
If someone managed to launch games via Dosbox I would be interested :) thank you!
Where did you get that DosBox core from?`
Here?

Yes it's the one. Since then I managed to make it work. I launched Rayman, Doom, Populous etc and it works well. It's a bit slow when there is 3D, even playing on CPU cycles.
By cons my problem now lies in the launch of Windows 3.1 that crash the console. It works on other systems where I have Dosbox. I do not know if it comes from the heart or bad configurations.

I used to drink alcohol fairly often. Never to the point of it being a problem, but like 2-3 beers with dinner each night, or a few cocktails or glasses of Scotch or something. Started smoking/vaping weed a lot a few years back which killed 90% of my interest in booze. Now I stopped smoking/vaping weed as much and just deal with life the boring way most of the time

I only drank alcohol once and it was by accident

I didnt know it was beer, it was on a juice bottle

Yeah, I'm addicted to smoking, sadly. It's very addictive but I wish I didn't start.

May just order a 5700g for a nas/emulation set up tbh

@SylverReZ, you played that Mario flash game called Mario 63?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, No, but I've seen it on Vinesauce's stream.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, that game is one of the reasons i met newgrounds bc the full versión of it is in that site
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Also somebody is remaking it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, the other game where I found newgrounds is new york shark

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Many people thought it was lost, but was discovered that he hid it on the same page.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's been there for a long time, too. People who search for lost media don't look hard enough lmao.

@SylverReZ, also the pico 2 demos used to be only for the newgrounds patrons but they are on internet archive too (https://archive.org/download/picos_school_2)

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
Iirc the demos were removed from newgrounds in 2022
