David Hayter To Voice Solid Snake in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

ssb snake.jpg

Kept you waiting, huh?!

During its E3 show this year, Nintendo revealed some tantalizing details regarding the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in particular, the fact that every character to have ever made an appearance in the series will be included in the next Smash installment wowed the crowd. This means that Solid Snake, one of the main characters in the Metal Gear series, will once again settle it in Smash. The tactical espionage expert made his last (and only) appearance in the fighting game in 2008’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

In addition to the video game franchise in which he is the protagonist of, Snake is also famous for his iconic gruff voice, acted by David Hayter. The latter did not reprise the role in Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain to many fans' (including yours truly) dismay. However upon the query of a fan on twitter, David Hayter said that he will indeed be voicing Snake once again.

The news was confirmed by Nintendo Treehouse's localization manager, Nate Bihldorff, when interviewed by IGN. However IGN mentioned that Bihldorff "was not able to confirm whether Hayter re-recorded his lines or if Ultimate is using the same audio as Snake’s original appearance in 2008’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl."

I, for one, am very excited to learn that one of the most iconic voices in the video game industry is coming back. How do you feel about this? Do you prefer Hayter or Kiefer Sutherland as the voice of Snake?

The main point of Smash 5 was the "Everyone is here" mantra, bringing everyone in the franchise in one game. The new additions were probably done out of convenience and not needing to negotiate with even more different companies (Bandai-Namco/Toei for Goku), they're all from Nintendo's IPs. Less stress on the Smash dev team and Sakurai (who probably deserves retirement after this game). A surprise reveal could still happen, but I doubt it. Besides, there's always modded Goku over Ryu or C. Falcon, whoever.
They still need to negotiate to reuse the third party characters, unless the deal they previously signed included being able to reuse them in future titles and ports.
Reason Mario Maker 3DS scrapped the costumes was because Nintendo didn't want to renegotiate all the third party ones.

I really hope people aren't serous about wanting Goku in Smash. I do think we will see more characters in Smash, but Goku is surely not one of them.

As for the thread, cool. I don't really have anything else to say about it.

Just my two cents, but I don't think Hayter would have been able to pull off the facial capture and performance like Kiefer did for MGSV. I wouldn't want anyone else voicing Solid Snake, but Kiefer really pulled it off with the subtlety of his performance.

A bit of a stretch but having different VA and mo-cap performers wouldn't hurt. Keifer with the acting and Hayter with the iconic voice stuff.

Would be cool if codec calls made a return in addition to adding new palutenas guidance for all the dlc and returning characters

It'd be great if Sam Fisher was added to the roster so we'd finally have Solid Snake and Sam FIsher in the same game. :)

That's because Goku is not a video game character.
It's just a matter of decisions, really.

Son Gokû has been in a fuckload of games, Dragon Ball ones and All-Star type ones so the excuse that most use "He's not a video game character." falls short.

For a 2D Smash Bros.-like with Son, you have Battle Stadium D.O.N.
For a 3D Smash Bros.-like with Son, you have J-Stars Victory VS+ or JUMP Force (2019)

There are games with him, just not in Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. yet.

If there's one thing that Bandai, Toei, Shueisha and Akira Toriyama (as well as all of us) is to always make more money and Suoer Smash Bros. Ultimate seems like the perfect Smash game to get him in (via DLC).

Except....he's still not a video game character. He's a manga/anime character who's been adapted into video game form. And there's indeed a difference between the two of those.

Even if goku has a lot of games, when people think of him it's the anime that comes to mind not the games. Which makes sense considering he is from the manga and anime.

It's just a business decision they've done so far with Goku not being on Smash but that'll likely change as Dragon Ball is more profitable now than it has been years ago (DB Super helped a ton with the sales).

goku being in an upcoming fighting crossover game jump force already makes him not needed to be in smash, since anime characaters have their own type of smash ever since jump stars.
