I've followed the instructions on the official site and run the installer from the HBC, but for some reason it always freezes after downloading updates, at exactly 6.92% while installing the first one, and it usually corrupts the files so I have to copy them again onto the SD. I've tried deleting any superfluous files from the SD and reformatting it as FAT32 but that didn't help. The way it freezes is also weird because the clock on the bottom right corner keeps going so it doesn't seem like the application itself crashed, but all I can do at that point is force shutdown my Wii by holding the power button. My SD is not an SDHC so there shouldn't be compatibility issues. I've read that this problem is common, and it's just a matter of retrying a few times, but I've tried almost 10 times and it always got stuck at the same point.

Here's a syscheck just in case (it's in italian I know, sorry. But google translate works fine)

Alright then, I'll try keeping it on for a few hours. If that doesn't work I was thinking about trying a different SD card, or changing wifi settings (maybe it doesn't like my router? although that seems unlikely)

Maybe the former would work, and I don't think that would be the case, but (assuming you don't have the 24-player beta) you could try downloading the updates from a PC and putting them onto the SD card. It would still have to install, but anything weird that the Wii does would probably be bypassed.

I didn't notice that you could download updates manually, I should probably try this. Also no, I didn't know that 24-player mode was a thing

So, the first thing I decided to try was a different SD card and it finally worked, without freezing :yaywii:
Apparently my other SD card was just unreliable. Thanks for the help

From experience, seems like the installer doesn't like SDHC cards, but I can be wrong.
I knew that SDHC cards don't really work well with some homebrews (like bootmii) so I always used 2GB cards on my Wii. This one apparently was corrupting the file table, because sometimes on windows some files were impossible to delete, and an error message would say that the file didn't exist anymore. I thought this was due to the installer corrupting it on the Wii, but actually it happens even on windows if you write many files at once. That SD card was very old, so I replaced it with the 2GB card that was bundled with my 3DS and it worked on first attempt.
