Hello guys,

I'm currently trying to repair a broken Wii belonging to an acquaintance. The problem seems to be rather unusual. Here's what I've already tested / tried:

- after switching it on, I only get a black screen ( without the SD card )
- with the SD card, BootMii starts ( luckily, it's installed in boot2, so I can always install a new nand.bin )
- the Homebrew Channel ( which was definitely installed ) can't be started via BootMii ( black screen )
- Homebrew apps can only be loaded and started via Priiloader
- a new nand.bin ( built with NUS Nand Builder ) unfortunately doesn't work
- with SaveMiiFree Modul I can access the recovery menu, but no software version is displayed in the bottom right corner
- the Nand Formatter gets stuck on the first WAD file ( I've never experienced that before )
- Replacing the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules ( used but tested ) also didn't help
- bootmii works fine when I install an nand, bin ( no Error )
- YAMM works fine when I install .wad ( no Error )

- I try to boot in the Recovery Mode my sepzial SSBB DVD 5 ( Autoboot ).
The Wasabi DX was able to load this DVD und start SSBB. Syncing with the Wii Controller was also possible.

The Wii was last used to play games via USB Loader GX and nothing was installed.

I'm a bit stumped. Does anyone have any other ideas ?

Regards, Maxidoman

But for the attempted nand.bin I would've guessed unsupported video output - like this Wii had been region changed improperly (across video regions). So the (presumably video region agnostic) homebrew software displays but none of the proprietary Wii software (which does care about video region) does.

Can you give more detail about what didn't work about the new nand.bin? You successfully flashed a new nand, but nothing changed? Or you were unable to flash a new nand?

It's all very strange. I was able to flash the new nand.bin with bootmii without any error messages. But the error remains exactly the same. I'm wondering why my SSBB autoboot DVD works in recovery mode... I think not much is needed in recovery mode...

Reminds me of this strange hardware issue/solution I've had 2 people report, here's a relevant snippet from my Discord DM's with "Jack":
Hello again. You know that i was stucked with my old nintendo. I made a foolish with it, deassembly it and while it is on with a screwdriver I carefully went through the pins of the chip. It went out and lit up again. Then I decided to try if it works at all. And….. it worked like a miracle and even the Homebrew channel that I had installed but didn't work was ok now.

Alternatively, you could set up neek to autoboot instead of bootmii boot2, but that's hardly ideal when traditional softmods are generally preferred over neek.

Edit: Jack had restored ohneschwanzenegger nand, as well as a nand from a different already modded console converted for his wii with modmii/punetwiin, his issue persisted like yours, and this weird hardware thing he tried fixed it. I later ran into another user in the exact same situation u are now, I just can't find it, and I shared Jack's story and it worked for the 2nd person too. It's super weird, super rare, and I don't understand it, but that's my 2 cents, good luck!

I don't understand what Jack did to fix the problem. His Wii was switched on, he took it apart while it was switched on, and then what exactly happened ?
