I know it doesn't look much with a 2% progress, but Crown 3DS is the best we have of piracy on 3DS so far.
It may not be what we hope, but it's already a start.

So stop bitching around, it's not gonna leave us anywhere

Nothing is certainly the best we have at this point, indeed.

With all the respect, but I completely disagree with you.
Their product is a 1:1 copy of a catridge
This is a start, don't expect a full hack yet.

no one expects a full hack but crown 3ds is our best bet so far so everyone stop bitching about it.

no they are not

If our "best bet" is a group of people who had one very questionable video many months ago and then absolutely nothing since then, we are seriously screwed.

Neimod probably is. In regards to this whether it's real or not is not relevant. The fact is somewhere someone is playing "backups ", otherwise how are venom and others dumping roms.

Do you need to be able to play a rom to be able to dump it..?

The first release team who dumped some 3DS games said they verified their dump and that they were surprised flashcarts maker haven't figured out how to do it yet.

Look at the nfo inside the spoilers in this thread:
http://gbatemp.net/t...ds-roms-dumped/

We have nothing that proves that by dumping roms they played them.
They said, but there is no video, no guide, nor even a flashcard of them, or a 1:1 copy.

Just be patient my friend, we have almost anything that can piracy 3DS.

No one showed something even close to what Crown 3DS showed us.
It will have to start somewhere, and by what Crown 3DS showed us, they are the best option to a start.

If you think by that we are screwed, then I say: Yes we are
But for me this is a start of a long way

Guys, it' possible to play 3DS ROMs... with severe hardware modifications. That's why there's no hack for normal people, because it's only in-depth hardmodding so far.

Crown3DS did not look fake, but it also did NOT look like a flash cart like we known today.

It's not an actual game cart, but it's also not a "flash cart" like we currently use for the DS family.

That's exactly what I've been talking.
Crown 3DS is a 1:1 copy of a game.

I believe this is a start.

I do too, but a lot of people nowadays are used to flash carts and the easy way of doing things, and assume that's the only way.

Well, yes. But the way this "Crown3DS" team presented made it controversial (at least for now). They didn't show reflashing the device, their pictures had notebook papers with random times (wtf?), and they didn't prove there wasn't a Splinter Cell 3D cartridge soldered on to the bottom of their FPGA board. Additionally their progress bar is utter shit. WTF is that even supposed to be for? And WTF is +2% even for? Did one of the guys have a slice of pizza and count that as progress for the cart? And anyways it would only work for direct piracy so the team would be shut down very quickly.

The problem with people today is they are spoiled with flash carts using custom menus so a flash cart like this, to them, is by default fake. I'm not going to say its definitely fake but I won't hold my breath (like plasma dragon said a page or so back I think).

Would you throw a couple of links to read more about this? or is it all cluttered in IRC channels? Thanks

The are not many good 3ds games to me which is why I am not buying it at all.. Maybe for a long time until there are enough good games that I want. So far I have seen good games just for me:

Super Mario 3D Land
Luigi's Mansion 2
New Super Mario Bros 2
Ninja Gaiden
Resident Evil: Revelations
Kid Icarus: Uprising

Thats not quite enough for me so I am okay with PS3 and Wii for now for a year or two. I am not heavy gaming anyway. I will play when I feel like. A life out of nature is better than inside the house staring at the tv screen everyday. :)

These things are often done on a case-by-case basis though. Copying the ROM of a chip and flashing it onto another is not something unique to the 3DS, nor is it anything particularly hard if you know what you're doing (such as people versed in elecrical engineering). This is not special at all, this type of thing is done every day all over the planet for a wide range of things. People only seem to care in this case because they think it'll let them play 3DS backups, thus all the hope turned to rage.

Anyways here's some general info (both game-focused and otherwise) on the concepts involved.

Hell, here's a tutorial on doing it for NES carts.

So yeah, this shit isn't new or unique, and it's not surprising the ROM dumping groups are calling out chinese flash cart clone companies on not being able to do shit.

EDIT: The link for the NES ROM splitter in the NES tutorial is broken, looks like this works instead.

Ahh, Chinese clones...

1. Get a working flashcart.
2. Create a blueprint of it.
3. Make minor adjustments.
4. Grab a clean copy of the R4 kernel or AKAIO kernel.
5. Make a new menu for it.
6. Slap a new logo on the cartrige.
7. PROFIT!

As much as I praise their inginuity in some cases, in others I just facepalm at their greedyness. I am willing to wager that in many cases, original cartridges and fake cartridges are made in the exact same factory by the exact same workers.

According to some members that have been to Shenzen, that's true.

Hell, even I have to decry the market as a whole. The last thing that could actually be called an improvement was the iEvo (and the DSTwo before that). The majority of it for the last few years has simply been releasing updated bootloaders.

...which is harmful to the scene as everytime they release a new cart by simply changing a few components, they immediatelly risk losing compatibility with multikart molochs like Wood or AKAIO.

I'm quite sad that the iEvo exploit hasn't spread more - I know it was very limited but I somewhat dreamed about a DSThree. Seeing that it failed badly, nobody looks into the exploit that was found and perhaps it could be improved upon. If Lady Luck would be with us, it could allow for example using the cameras, and I don't need to stress how useful it would be for homebrew development.
