What's the quickest way with wbfs_file 1.4 to make a backup of my
wbfs partion external HD to a fat partition on my pc harddisk?
or is it quicker to backup to a wbfs partition?

what would be the syntax / commandline?
external wbfs hd is drive H
internal fat / wbfs is drive x

That is answered in the FAT FAQ:

Q: Can I extract all the games from a WBFS partition to .wbfs files?
A: Yes, use this command:
wbfs_file.exe W: extract_wbfs_all D:\wbfs
Where W: is your WBFS partition and D:\wbfs is the FAT partition on USB (or on local hard-disk)
[/p]
So:

wbfs_file.exe H: extract_wbfs_all X:\wbfs

Ah, I think i know why there is a difference - because of different wbfs block size on the wbfs partition and in the wbfs file. The wbfs file block size is 2mb, while on the partition it depends on the partition size. extract_iso will copy all blocks present on the wbfs partition, so it will not do any additional scrubbing. While extract wbfs will do additional scrubbing with a smaller block size. In other words, that difference is unused data that would be scrubbed if the block size was smaller. So it's not a problem. You can do another test, convert the iso that was extracted from the wbfs partition to a wbfs file and then compare the resulting wbfs file with the one that was extracted with extract_wbfs.
Makes sense. The Difference is aligned to 2 MiB and 2 MiB in size.
Test resulted in 2 identical .wbfs files.

thanks

the quickest way is often to read the documentation provided with the tool
or simply to run -? -H or anything equivalent

anyway extract from the mentioned doc and help the command is :
wbfs_file extract_wbfs_all
so first of all make sure you create the appropriate folder in your destination drive and run :
CODEwbfs_file H:ÂÂextract_wbfs_all X:\WBFS

I advise you to put them in the root of your X drive in a WBFS folder because then you can use WiiBackupManager

Cheers,
R.

PS : by the way you can directly use WiiBackupManager to grab all your games from the drive.

I don't know about extracting the entire drive, but I've wbfs_file to convert ISO to .wbfs by just dropping the ISO on the icon for the program and by default it puts the .wbfs in the same location as the ISO, which happened to be an NTFS partition at the time.
I don't think wbfs_file cares what type of drive it is going to, it's just that CFG USB Loader will only work from Fat or WBFS drive.

Of course, without a problem.

I guess the wbfs block size on the partition is 4MB or 8MB, that can be checked with wwt, or by uncommenting the debuginfo command in wbfs_file and rebuilding, hmm, I might just enable that as well in a future version.

I am using Preloader to autoboot Configurable USB Loader.

The latest forwarder for CUL that I was using worked fine and waits for USB HDD to be ready etc.

The trouble is, that the screen was blank until the CUL splash screen popped up, which can be quite a while when 1st switched on.

Is there a forwarder for CUL with a splash screen to show something is going on while waiting for HDD to initialize ?

I am having to use the USBloader_gx loader to load CUL at the moment, but it would be nice to have one with the correct "loading.." screen for CFG.

and they will stay scrubbed and will not split, so same space as on my external wbfs drive?
How to copy them back again on a new external wbfs partition drive?
same tool (wbfs_file 1.4)?

To the GPL Douches - Learn what GNU GPL is, and is not. You're a fine product of why this nation is in trouble; you know enough to be dangerous, but not enough to know what you're talking about. Also wouldn't the GPL only apply to those countries that accepted it, and codified it - just a thought. Thank you for giving me material to laugh at you, you keep me entertained in this thread.
Agh...please please PLEASE don't get people started again when it's just now stopped. Let us bask in the glorious silence for a bit.

The best way to keep the silence and to keep it from happening again is to ignore the idiot. If he has nothing to comment on then he will stop.

Oggzee, keep up the great work. I can't speak for anyone else, but I appreciate the hard work that you put into this great program. There is nothing that says you have to do this, I and I hope most of us realize that you are doing this because you want to and if sh_t like this keeps popping up there is going to be a point were you say f__k it, I'm not dealing with this anymore.

A lot of people would not want that to happen.

Thanks again.

The .wbfs files will be scrubbed and will be split.
Yes to copy back use wbfs_file again, it will handle split .wbfs files automatically of course.
But you will have to run it from cmd in a loop for all files like this:
for %i in (*.wbfs) do wbfs_file.exe H: add_wbfs "%i"
If H: is your wbfs partition.

isn't there a option for not split the .wbfs file when copy only to a ntfs partition?

it would, for me, be very usefull when you want to make a backup of all your games on a ntfs partition.
- they will be scrubbed so less space
- they won't be split
- they can be copied back only on a wbfs partition

if people want to use fat usb then they have to split them, otherwise they don't need to...

I think that would only cause confusion when people try to copy the un-split .wbfs file to a FAT32 drive. Once the .wbfs has be created, it can be easily copied in Windows explorer etc. to the FAT32 drive and back to a storage drive without any more converting too.

Edit: You can use CISO to store games in a scrubbed/un-split format.

The facts are these:
- they ARE scrubbed so less space
- they ARE split
- they CAN be copied back on a wbfs partition or on a FAT partition
So there is no added benefit if they are not split.
You can still copy them to and from wbfs or fat partition regardless if they are split.
When you use wbfs_file H: add_wbfs game.wbfs it will automatically use all the splits that exists, that is game.wbf1, game.wbf2, etc...

QUOTE(milcoi @ Nov 11 2009, 03:44 PM) maybe Oggzee can make a option for that.
The option already exist:
-s SIZE : Set split size [2147483136] (4194303 sectors)
Must be a multiple of 512 (sector size)
So, using: -s 10000000000 will create non-splitted .wbfs files.
But again, I don't see any benefit in that as such files can't be copied to the fat partition then.

true, but I think I 'm 1 of the people who don't use fat partition usb drive for storing/playing my wii games.

I only use it for backup.

-s 10000000000 will be the option I gonna use for my backup.

Thanks Oggzee!

Can anyone confirm? I've always had usbloader cfg set with preloader to boot to. Easy enough to press the "home" button to reboot to the system menu from the loader( or when in game of course selecting "wii menu"). It seems after updating to 4.6, when i press the "home" button the wii locks to a black screen. I maybe mistaken but I believe my config has always had "home = exit".

Have you changed the forwarder too? Because home=exit depends on what exit stub the forwarder creates.

wbfs_file 1.5
wbfs_file_1.5.zip
Included binaries for windows, linux and macosx and sources.

CODEChanges:
--------

v1.5:
* Added more characters to the invalid path list: |
ÂÂ Which are replaced with _. Full list: /\:|?*"' (tnx dekani)
* Enabled debug_info command
* Documented -f option
ÂÂÂÂ-fÂÂÂÂÂÂ :ÂÂForce wbfs mode even if the wbfs file or partition
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂintegrity check is invalid (non matching number of
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂsectors or other parameters)
* Added option -t : trim extracted iso size
ÂÂ (not recommended, is there any use for that?)

Also, added this FAQ to the included readme.txt:

Q: Can I extract all the games from a WBFS partition to .wbfs files?
A: Yes, use this command:
wbfs_file.exe W: extract_wbfs_all D:\wbfs
Where W: is your WBFS partition and D:\wbfs is the FAT partition on USB
(or any kind of filesystem on a local hard-disk)

Q: How to copy all .wbfs files back to a WBFS partition?
A: Open up CMD where your .wbfs files are and run:
for %i in (*.wbfs) do wbfs_file.exe W: add_wbfs "%i"

Q: How to convert all the .iso files to .wbfs files?
A: Open up CMD where your iso files are and run:
for %i in (*.iso) do wbfs_file.exe "%i"
Note: If you write that in a .bat batch file then
you have to use %%i instead of %i, like this:
for %%i in (*.iso) do wbfs_file.exe "%%i"

Q: How to create non-splitted .wbfs files?
A: Use -s 10000000000 option
However such files cannot be copied to a FAT filesystem partition.
Also note, files larger than 2GB will not work in the loader,
so it's best to leave the -s option at the default value.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.
