im trying to format a new usb drive to wbfs from fat32, and wbfs manager 4.0 gives me "an error occurred while attempting to format drive". i loaded it up in disk management and theres an unallocated 10mb partition that i think is causing the error here, is there a way i can make that partition invisible or something or just format the healthy partition?

expand the partition to encompass the unallocated memory.

Format the drive as wbfs in WiiBackupManager. It might have a better compatibility in comparison..

i expanded the partition and theres now only one partition on the drive, but im still getting the same error, even with wii backup manager
wait, wiibackupmanager gave me access is denied after attempting to lock the drive, im running the program as an admin, i doubt theres something preventing me from doing this is the usb sticks firmware but that was my first thought.

it was functioning normally and still is, im formatting it because i plan to load games off of it on my wii
So why did you decide to format it as wbfs?
Does it accept to be formatted to FAT32 now without issues?
The WBFS Manager should be avoided please.
There is a Bug in the "LIBWBFS" since Version 3.0.
Didn't know about that.. I know that @XFlak recommends formatting to wbfs with WiiBackupmanager instead of wbfs manager, i always assumed it was because it gives better to usb drives in comparison to wbfs manager..

No,format to WBFS is ok.😉

The LIBWBFS was / is the Program Library for the Developers to do their own Backupmanagers and Loaders.
THERE are many serious Bugs.

The developers made the access and management functions available as a C source code library LIBWBFS under the GPL2 license, so that third parties could very quickly develop their own USB loaders and WBFS managers based on this library. The WBFS managers are needed because no operating system can handle WBFS partitions.
and
During the development of his tools and a consistent code review of the LIBWBFS, Wiimm discovered around a dozen programming errors in the LIBWBFS, 3 of which were so serious that they could render the entire WBFS archive unusable. The bug fixes were published and discussed on GBAtemp[1]. Since these bugs were discovered by mid-2010, it can be assumed that all loaders and tools that are older can definitely handle WBFS incorrectly and destroy content. The popular WBFS Manager 3.0, released in April 2009, falls into this category, so its use is not recommended.

i already got it fixed, the whole reason it was messing up in the first place was because i had the drive open in file explorer.

i feel so dumb right now

i was formatting it because its a flash drive, also didnt mention that in my streak of stupidity
