Just adding a method I use that is very continent for me. I strip the end of the flat side of a bobby pin and bend it so it is at an extremely wide angle but not entirely straight. After easily sliding it into the JoyCon port, there are multiple ways to short Pin 10:
  • Sightly nudge the bobby pin for one of the indents to make contact with a screw on the rail.
  • Use wire or copper tape to connect the bobby pin to a screw.
  • (Untested) Strip some old earbuds and wrap the wire around the bobby pin. Pin 10 should short after the wire is plugged into the headphone jack.
This is a pretty quick solution that can fit inside a Switch case if you have one. This shouldn't damage your Switch if you strip and bend the bobby pin right.
I joined GBATemp just to post this.

So i can use electrical cable to touch 10 pin and the other side around a normal screw? do i need some kind of gloves? or something while turning it on?

I mean on the rail, i dont want to open the joycon.

So it works just by touchin only pin 10 in the rail and nothing else?

Doesn't it change it's state from HIGH to LOW when you ground it ? :-) Doesn't Switch then expect PIN 10 state HIGH in handheld mode and when get LOW it act as a Bluetooth ? Any permament solutions are permament. When you just solder a wire to short PIN 10 controller wouldn't register as in handheld mode anymore. Additionally from the firmware level running on the SoC it would be possible to check state of the GPIO which normally shouldn't be even triggered in normal circumstances. Hence Nintendo could use firmware functionality to detect state of GPIO connected to PIN 10, and ban console. I agree the cleanest solution would be using a premade jig, however for anyone with basic tinkering skills it's far easier and cheaper just to mount any kind of switch (if you don't like to cut enclosure just use N/O REED switch and magnet to trigger connection). Thats a nice clean and non permament solution. - Well unless magnet in vibration motor doesn't automatically trigger connection in REED switch itself.

@subcon959 I've got switch installed so when I short PIN10 it gives me RCM but JoyCon act as a Bluetooth connected controller. However when I change switch position it act as a normal JoyCon in handheld mode. Thats why I don't recommend making any permament mods (bending, soldering spot etc.) on JoyCon. One should be able to disconnect PIN10 from the ground at some point, hence jig or microswitch/REED switch installed inside JoyCon is recommended.

may i as please why the JoyCon is recommended and not on the switch where we first saw/told how to do it ?

I just wanted to mention this here in this thread for other modders. I hard modded my brothers little lads switch and again I soldered it but this time I made a right mess the solder blob dropped accidentally on the pins and had pins 7, 8, 9 & 10 altogether joined solid and no matter what I tried I could not solder sucker it all off it was way to far gone I also melted the plastic while I was trying a right mess it was so I just knew this was going to be an expensive cock up for me! I screwed the joy con back together hoping for the best outcome, tested it ASAP with volume + & power and it worked no logos and powers up works as normal without, I was amazed! So it seems as long as you solder pins 9 & 10 the others do not matter if you catch them accidentally??? Has anyone else done this and it worked ok? I thought it was the end for me making that mistake.

Edit: also the ribbon came out under the battery case so I had too strip down the joy con completely, yes what a mess but worked in the end.

That is a super easy mod I did inside my JoyCon. For some reason PIN 9 & 10 wasn't working for me so I used PIN 10 & 1 as f0f recommends. Then soldered micro 32AWG wires to ribbon part of JoyCon connector to 2 position switch, and cut small hole using xacto knife in JoyCon enclosure. My JoyCon is fully functional and whenever I have to trigger RCM I just change switch position on the side of my JoyCon.

you just need to short two pins why the hell would you need another joycon lol , infact you only need to short one pin to any ground so just touch the paperclip ect to the rail its self
When you say to rail you are refering to any metalm part right ? im so impatient to be able to try this mode on june 15th

if you do THIS instead (hidden magnetic reed switch instead of physical switch), you won't have any visible modification to your joycon and it is reversible in case you ever have warranty issues.
