Can mods ban themself?

Long time ago actually saw this happen on a forum I run. There was about between 2000-2500 users and the core admin/mod team was pretty much IRL friends and we were heading off for a week on a trip so wouldn't be there to see to the forum. "ok " we thought " no problem we will just recruit a couple of mods" we got around 75 applicants and eventually settled on about 3 mods. We will call them Larry Curly and Mo.

We sat round with them for about a week before going though everything, pointing them to the documentation and making sure they knew what they were doing as well as providing them with a couple of dummy accounts they could do what they want with yadda yadda yadda.

Everything seemed fine, they all asked some questions and we walked them through whatever they were unsure about. So the day comes and we all head off, didn't think anything of it this was a sunday night i think and we had a more seasoned mod looking after the 3 ..

Wednesday, barely 3 days ...
Larry had quit because he had pissed a bunch of people off
Curly had modded half of the board ( this is really our fault, we had just upgraded from different forum software and hadn't double checked the permissions)
and Mo had banned himself

I spent the next day trying to find an internet connection to fix the bloody mess
