'Final Fantasy VII Rebirth' launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox

Square Enix has today launched Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC with Xbox Play Anywhere support. This title is the second in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy and was previously released on PS5 and PC. Accompanying today's launch was the new trailer shared above.

Set across a vast and vibrant planet, FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH sees Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith and Red XIII escape from the dystopian city of Midgar and head out into the wider world. To hunt down the ex-SOLDIER Sephiroth, a haunting figure from Cloud's past who is now bent on ruling the planet, these unlikely heroes join forces with new companions, like the spirited ninja operative Yuffie and the wisecracking, feline-shaped robot Cait Sith. FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH delivers an unforgettable experience to players that’s filled with unexpected twists, memorable characters and jaw-dropping set pieces that longtime fans and newcomers can both enjoy.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5 and PC.

the OG ff7 is awesome but the remake is complete garbage imo. ive played both the first 2 parts and its a clusterfuck imo.

theres a little bit of nostalgia feel but how the sliced and diced it up making each game pointless to go for completion it just doesnt have the magic of the original.

my advice is if you play this game push through the story. dont focus on getting everything because it doesnt matter one bit. nothing carries over and alot of the side quests in the game are pointless.

Yeah, splitting a game's full story into multiple titles rarely ever works. It only really worked for, say, the .hack//IMOQ quartet and .hack//G.U. trilogy, and that's because they were designed from the start to be multi-game stories, to the point that progress carries over from one game to another if you play them in order.

FF7R's trying to split a story that was originally in one full 3-disc game into three full AAA-level titles. Except, as you noted, 100%'ing them is pointless (unlike with the .hack titles or even the original FF7's discs), as nothing carries over to the next part. Not the best kind of game to get invested in.

The game is huge with a tons of things to do and see, some said it's bloated and I do agreed with them. It also didn't answer any of the questions from the first part. All the alternate timelines etc. But the game is also really fun. I think I put in about 100hrs+ on the PS5 version.

I "legitimately" downloaded it for PC like a year or so ago, and dropped it after 45 minutes. What a shame of a remake.

im kind of an idiot for thinking this would be on switch 1, but one can dream. i'll just play the original that i bought on the switch.

I bought Remake on Sw2 when it launched for the system, and I am struggling to have a decent length play session on any particular day I feel like playing it. I get started, and I can't really go beyond an hour because I'm stuck in the same general area for that whole time, boring me a bit. That's how bloated it feels to me. I'm only on Chapter 8. I am doing side quests and such, so that is causing part of the problem.

But I will say, at this rate, by the time I beat it and go through other games in my backlog, Rebirth will be on sale for cheap, assuming I'll want to buy it.
