Homebrew Can I get some up-to-date help?

So, my R4 (R4i Gold 3DS (RTS)) gold just arrived... Didn't work straight out the box so I went online to find firmware and found this. Do I need wood as well? I'm unclear on how to start this as I can't find instructions lol

the only download you need from that site is wood
download it and unzip it to the flashcards sd

Yes, you HAVE to have a functioning flashcard to use NTRBootHaX anyway..... It says so on the guides page.
