It downloads game data for you over the internet (it works similarly to StreetPass), but can also download system updates silently. That's why I like to keep it disabled.

Spotpass is the same as push notifications on phones. Yes, it can and will download system updates and special notices, but that's perfectly fine for the majority of users.

The only real wastes of system resources are the warning info and currently Swapnote, since the best part was disabled due to Japanese penises.

Ditto!
Lol! I never knew why that happened, i just found it irritating that i can't get past the tutorial for that in Swapnote, because i can't send anything or receive anything spotpass wise. I think it should be allowed... but what does nintendo care for our freedom of choice and speech? I get banned periods, and deleted posts all the time on miiverse because i say something forbidden (Such as swapping friend codes with someone i've talked back and forth with during my school years, and lives next door to me. - yes we just wanted to be annoying to the system admins on miiverse lol). (passive aggressiveness i suppose. XD)
But i want swapnote to be spotpass again. it's annoying that it's not. It's like, "what's the purpose of this then?". Anyone i would want to share any of the notes with, would be my friends, who i can't even streetpass with them because streetpass isn't exactly passing the person with the 3ds, it's passing the hotspots that host streetpasses.

But the spotpass is my favorite thing-although i dont have a hacked 3ds so i dont have to worry about any firmware type of things right now. It's what allows me to get special items in Tomodachi life, and animal crossing. along with special mii's for the mii plaza(who sparkle with gold XD)
spotpass uses your internet connection, while streetpass uses public internet connections (or a streetpass thats made by a person).

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
