I shall start afresh and write all my steps down and go through them in stages.

so hopefully if anything is missed we can backtrack.

just one question before I start this

I will do dchp type

and reboot and obtain a current ip

should, I then use that current ip

and then change to static

and type that current ip to the IP ADRRESS section

so that both ip will match???

does that make sense?

Hmm try it.
I got me xbox set to dynamic and it constandly gets an IP whenever I boot it and can FTP into it without any problem.
Thing is, once you get an IP, your xbox should be accessible for the FTP program.

How many dashboards you have stored on the xbox?
XBMC, Evox?

on my first check it was xbmc and evo x

what I will do it i will go through the box and check every file and check what loaded and not and put a full history on here hopefully that will help with the ips

I was suggesting you'd do a clean install of everything, but seeing that your DVD drive is unable to open complicates things a lot.

Anyway, Try XBMC and plug it into your network (without touching network settings)
If it gets you an IP, try it out in Filezilla.
Then try Evox, same thing again.

current ip noted

type change to static
ip address matched to current ip


save and exit

reboot

loaded

flashfxp

inputed ip adress and port and password (as mentioned)

and done

the flashfxp

shows my computer on the left and xbox files on the right

F drive seems to have all the games etc on it.

This is what my next move is

I need to delete some of the games from the F drive

and add the elder scrolls games which is a ISO at the moment!

the dvd isssue - going to following some guides.

You need to tap it a few times to open

so the rubber band needs fixing and cleaning

shall i open another thread on converting isos to transfer via ftp to the xbox (most likely already on here).

and fixing dvds

Aye sweet!

Humm, use Qwix to extract the games (when their in ISO format)
Then copy the extracted ISO to your games folder

I am looking at qwix now will have that dl later today.

Deleting games from the xbox from the F: drive can that be done with this program too?

I would recommend C-Xbox Tool over Qwix. Qwix tends to crash now and then, at least for me.
You can delete games with both tools

right found it its in ftp explore

ok in went the ip address and the systems connected but how do I delete

do I chose a game file eg 2006 foot world cup

do I hightlight right click and delete?????

right another update

managed to get my head around the c-tool.

managed to delete the games I did not want,

I now have 98000mb or 98gb free on it.

how many games will that load?

Great
98GB will fit a couple of games. IIRC C-Xbox Tool trims the isos when transferring, giving you more space over for more games.

With 120GB i could fit about 20 games or more.

Ideally this is what i would like is a bundle of games which I will add over time, but need to satrt with elder scrolls 3 and a few rpgs.

But I ideally need some emus like final burn legends or coin ups

which is best to go for out of them?

I think they will take up about 5gb of space.

Final burn seems like a good one for the old games.

I want to split the system up with a pile of emus from a number of consoles and then about 50 top xbox games.

I think that will or should fill the 98gb up nicely

any tips?

Sorry I have no experience with the emus you named the only arcade emu i had on mine was mame. But a google search should answer you question.

Are you running xbmc as dashboard? With xbmc you can organize the emus and xbox games nicely in their separate folders.
I don't believe you'll able to fit 50 xbox games on 98GB if I understood you correctly.

Do you want advice on games?

I guess I will be revisiting the 50 games and narrowing them down to the top 10 rpgs and about 10 racing games for the wee man and a small selection of mixed games.

Hopefully that will free up 10-15gb of space for the emus.

Games advice is always welcomed as that the next area I will be looking at after I sort out the folders as mentioned.

the current emu folder is only 750mb, so that will need changing
