AFAIK messing up any of the vanilla vWii IOSes will break Wii U mode updates. Is it a good idea to do that on purpose to prevent auto updates in addition to DNS blocking?
Just asking, can't you reinstall the IOS? I saw people in the forum asking for help to update cause of vWii blocking the update and repairing it. Then, it's a secure form of blocking updates and avoiding autoupdate (I can't use at all my WiiU now cause wiiu downloaded 5.5.0 and I don't want to update, it's disconnected from current.I don't think it's a good idea
It's permanent block
and have a dump of it from your machine, since installing a fakesigned dump would keep it broken =PThis one made me chuckle.
It'd definitely work, but it's a pretty crazy idea to mess up your vWii intentionally.
If you did this, I doubt you'd even need DNS blocking.
It's actually a great temporary idea, assuming you know an IOS that can be changed without any repercussions.
Patch* , erasing will cause a brick on a vwii. It's only to make an app that (erases?) an IOS which would block the update but still allowing to enter vWII and homebrew channel for restoring it, called "vUBlock" XD that would be amazing
https://gbatemp.net/threads/help-cant-update-wii-u-error-162-3006.400734/so, what IOS should i try and patch with d2x installer, in order to block the update?, lilke wich is the IOS causing the issue? so i can backup it before attempting anything stupid.

1.- Make a backup of vWii IOS35
2.- Install an ios35 of Wii instead of vWii
3.- Profit
Installing regular Wii IOS on vWii. Installing non-critical IOS will result in those IOS having very limited functionality and crashing very easily, installing old System Menu IOS (IOS 80 atm) will cause vWii to brick.
Alright, will try as soon as getting home, but, the only thing that does not compute, its the as far as i remember, intalling a Wii IOS on a vWii, was a total brick, wasn it? anyone that can confirm this?
Can you do it? Sure. Would you want to? Don't see why.
Plenty of method to protect against updates. Unless you just flat out never use vWii.
If you're honestly going to do this, make backups (trust me I've done more IOS replacement then I care to remember). You should also do some research on what you're actually replacing. Some games require IOS to be working. Replacing something like 35 means several games will no longer work. (SM Galaxy/CoD/FIFA - off the top of my head)
Now that you can download your own IOS with the common key, I guess you can do it on your own, but eventually you'll get someone replacing IOS80, 58 or god forbid any other normal IOS and then can't boot at all. Do so at your own risk
Dump your IOS using YetAnotherBlueDumpMod to wad files and answer NO when asked to fakesign the tmd or the ticket to keep a CLEAN version of each IOS you own. When vWii system is updated, remember to redump the modified IOS to keep latest version of clean IOSes. (you can check wiimpersonator to see modified titles). Clean IOS wad files can be used to fix semi-brick vWii as a full NAND restore is not possible ! Keep them safe. More info here.
