Sorry, I just found it, I'll let you know in about 9 hours...

You dont need to know japanese at all. X/Y are melee, A/B are your missle launcher and L/R are you specials

. Still, there are some levels that are hard to get by (like level 16) without knowing japanese

Are there only 17 levels? How do you get to the later ones?

The second option on the menu is the real game, the first option is just the tutorial (which is the first 17 levels).You also get to chose your weapons, so never mind my above post
