if i copy over my backups of saves and extdata for games that i made using Checkpoint save manager to my computer, will those backups be able to restore saved games to a newly purchased 3ds (if it has cfw) if my current one is stolen?

also, if that works, would i just need to copy the Checkpoint folder at /3ds/checkpoint to an external location to do so?

thank you for any help!

Yes and no. Just backup the saves. You don't need to backup checkpoint itself. You can also restore those saves on another 3ds.

Just like Giodude said. You will need to open the game once to create save data before you can restore it, by the way.

Saves are universal, they can be restored on any system including game cartridges. It's also region free for most games so you can import the save on another region for said game. Now that you got your saves backed up, I suggest zipping them and uploading to cloud storage like Google Drive or OneDrive or both. You'll never lose access to your saves forever.
