Has anyone seen (or created) a user guide/FAQ for the built-in Media Extend application on their G6?

I don't mind some trial and error to figure things out, but knowing some simple tips like "Press Start to access the menu while watching a movie or reading an eBook" would have improved the initial user experience. Or perhaps a description about how to add/enable new fonts for eBooks.

Before getting all excited and drafting a FAQ that talks about the Media Extend features, I want to know if this type of document already exists somewhere.

Thanks!

Everyone says that Media-Extend is just a modified MoonShell, but (from a users point of view) there are many non-trivial changes to the application. Media-Extend appears to branch off from version 0.9 of MoonShell... which could mean there are more differences than similarities.

Media-Extend has a more complicated user interface than MoonShell, and many unique features. Some of those features are listed on the back of the box, but others are completely hidden from the average user. The update history is very useful, but only gives the briefest outline of some features (such as auto-synched lyrics on display while listening to MP3s).

This leaves me with questions. For example, what about using different fonts with the eBook reader, or updating the Media-Extend skin and background? Are these features still available, or are they removed for this firmware release, or are they permanently lost when Media-Extend gets compiled into the G6 firmware? Hopefully the G6 team is able to keep many of the features (fonts, skins, and

I keep seeing links to the www.gbalpha.com website, but my Chinese isn't strong enough to understand very much there.

The ebook reader (on my G6DS-R, fw 2.2) uses the same font set as the M3, available here.
If I remember rightly, the files go in /system/font/

There's an example skin here. I got it from someone else here, but i can't remember who, sorry. The text-colours are a bugger to decipher, In the end I used DSOrganize to edit the text file without getting the cart out all the time.

Hope that helps.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
