Apple rejects Steam Link iOS app from App Store

IMG_8182.JPG

If you were looking forward to the upcoming Steam Link app, and you own an Apple phone or tablet, you won't be able to use it, as Apple has denied the app from being on iOS devices. This change of heart comes after the company had originally approved the Steam Link app on May 7. Valve had made their official announcement, expecting nothing to go wrong. Near the time of launch for the app, Apple had quickly changed their decision, citing that the they had "business conflicts" with it that hadn't been originally discovered during the approval process, causing the app to lose certification and not be allowed on the digital storefront.

Valve has appealed the decision, stating that they are disappointed with Apple, and that they hope the company changes their mind. The phrase "business conflicts" hasn't been elaborated on, but it's assumed that Apple took issue with the app's ability to stream PC games to a phone or tablet, which would potentially cause Apple to lose sales on the mobile front. Steam Link is currently available for all Android devices.

Apple being Apple. They wanted to monopolize everything. I was more shocked they approved the said app in the first place. The closed source enviroment is a double edged sword. I have an apple phone used for business uses only (calls, text, email, surfing) but i'll never leave my android device behind.
"Apple to lose sales on the mobile front."
Yeah cus mobile games are fucking awesome.....
Lets admit, there are gems in mobile games. Ive played tons of them. And this is the reason why mobile gaming doesn't grow. It doesnt receive attention and when the game developers want to enter the market, they were blocked by phone industry and the stereotypes of people that if it is a mobile game, its trash. Steam clearly aims to bring gaming to phones.
I'll never understand why people should be penalized for their choice in system.
It was not as bad as before. It only became like these in the last few years. It seems their goal now is to monopolize and get the biggest money they could from their consumers.

The absolute worst thing about Apple though isn't the closed ecosystem. It isn't the "cutting edge" low specs (sans CPU). It is the planned obsolescence. I decide when my device is obsolete. Not you Apple. We know how it goes... Device xyz is not supported by iOS newnew.new - apps eventually abandon this device by only allowing installation on newer versions. Planning your perfectly functional and adequate (if not cutting edge) devices obsolescence, forcing you to upgrade. And they slow the phone down in the process... (Aging battery my arse). If this isn't an example of the sheep being led to a kebab shop then what is?

I agree with Apple on this one.
Who wouldn't want to play Angry Birds and Cut the Rope instead?
Damn PC master race always wanting their damn games everywhere...
DOOM 2016? Poo! Doodle Jump is a reeeeal game.

Psst... that was sarcasm.

That's ridiculous. I hope Steam and Apple get this sorted out so it can be allowed on the app store.
Someone theorized that it was rejected because it would allow you to purchase games via the app and I guess Apple has a policy disallowing 3rd party markets (Google has a similar thing but I guess they figured this was different from what that policy is supposed to prevent, which is competing app stores)
That would make sense, but if that's the only reason then Steam could easily disallow buying stuff directly from the app and making people go to the website instead, and get the app allowed.

I really wouldn't expect apple to approve this, they pulled Mame4all and DOS emulators off their store. 2 platforms no one in copyright land gives a fuck about, but they got buttblasted because 1 free app would allow playing dozens of things they can't control, and that's time spent not being bored enough to buy apps on their locked-down store.

As consumers, we asked for all of this by allowing it.

I almost feel sorry for the apple fanboys. Almost... But they chose their closed ecosystem, so they can deal with it.

Are you kidding ? I am an apple fan and I don't care about the stream link. I have Samsung phone as well. I will be fine! :D Oh yeah, if you are on a jailbreak then I think you can do that. Otherwise, I dont care about the stream link anyway.

You know what... I am going back to using a Nokia 3310. Because it at least doesn't bend, or shatter if I poke it with my finger or drop it four inches... Cough iPhones Cough.

Very funny.

I've had two Samsung phones (S7 and S8) shatter from a minor fall no higher than 3 feet... So...

Same is true of all smartphones. Apart from the z2 force that is...

Sometimes.. I've had phones survive 6+ft drops when exiting industrial forklifts. Just depends I guess. However, when it hits carpet and cracks I have to question life.

I just love it when people pull the Samsung card as in (Ha, you use an iPhone X, Samsung makes those screens).
Samsung is a manufacturer first and fore most, my LG phone had Samsung flash memory chips and so did my Android tablets.

Fuck Samsung, they stopped using Qualcomm in favor of their shitty CPU/GPU not to mention the heavy amounts of customization and Samsung apps they have on their devices which you cannot remove by conventional means.
I have a Samsung Galaxy J3, the minute I got it I immediately removed the original OS, not giving two flying fucks about how Samsung butchers Android.
Samsung is way too expensive for what it is, even if it has a curved screen or not.
Apple iPhones are expensive too don't get me wrong, but you get what you paid for + plenty of years of OS updates unlike Samsung who ditched their Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge after 2 years ''forcing'' users to buy the next flagship if you want to keep up with the new Android OS version.

Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
