Porting the Tegra Shield is feasible but until someone try to do it, nothing will happen.
As a person said, Kodi would be really nice on this little device. Sure no 4K but heck 1080p without problems. Do I even dare to ask for 10bit support? Who knows!

I'm just surprised that people think they can just repackage another binary or archive format and expect it to just work on a different platform. APK's are compiled for Android use, which is Linux based. For example most use Xarmin, and Java; so yeah, not gonna work on the Switch anyways. Unless a Development Kit is made for Java on the switch which I doubt will ever happen. Cough Java sucks Cough.

Well, 4K would be possible, just not high fps 4K. The tegra X1 is capable of 4K but the switches 1.4 hdmi output is limited. I dont understand why Nintendo used old hdmi technology instead of something capable of 4K 60fps HDR.

Im talking 4k video playback, not gameplay. The system has more than enough power for that.

Sure, but it doesn't even include a video player app. Also, again, money. Nintendo are well known for saving money on parts.

You're missing my point, 4k video at 24/30fps would be possible docked if Nintendo allowed it, the hardware is capable. They could release an update in the future to enable it. That would allow video streaming companies such as hulu, netflix, amazon etc. the capability of offering 4k content on the switch. Which would most likely allow for the creation of some type of homebrew 4k video player

Something like BlueStocks (android emulator) would have to be ported maybe as NRO/NSP application (or tailored and installed on an SD card for the Switch) for this to happen.
Like some said it would require quite some effort but it can surely be achieved.

I'm not just sitting here and getting ridiculed on how it wont work. why dont we just shut it down. Im sorry, i dont understand how code works, my area of experize is in computer repair. I understand it can get quite repetitive but don't you think I get that in my industry as well. But you don't see me screaming at grannies because they don't know how to check their email. It's not just me but anyone who writes a thread like this. they get bashed for what? being uninformed. It's not everyone on this thread but just some. I'm not going at anyone in particular including the people I tagged its just airing my frustrations. Android apps for the most part run in a Java VM, it would actually be able to port said VM to a different OS and have it work. Google has done so with Chrome OS. Games and apps using native code with NDK still wouldn't work though, since they expect an (albeit non-standard) Linux environment.

I think this would help bring games that are typically asscoited with moble hardware to switch, would be a fun idea could even open up running sheild tv games on the switch.

It's not as simple as just converting them, you need to port the JVM itself. And even that won't work for everything as said. Probably a better idea to port Android itself, the Switch would make a rather nice Android tablet and give the Switch so many more uses besides just gaming.
