that's just another styble USB adapter for the 1001 series Vita. The more common one is an adapter for the usb side of the stock sony cable it's main purpose is to make it so the Vita can charge from any USB source instead of requiring the Sony power brick or Sony battery charging pack. Usually advertised under the "Pisen" name on Ebay or Amazon if it's branded at all.

PS Vita card: 15.0 x 12.5 x 1.6mm
Micro SD card: 15.0 x 11.0 x 1.0mm

an adapter would need to fit some pretty complex DRM circumvention circuitry inside the 1.5mm of width and 0.6mm of thickness you have to work with. I just don't think it's feasible, and if it is it would be a very expensive solution that's not even worth the money to R&D.

If cobra blackfin could load ROMs from a microsd via the game cart slot, perhaps its possible to use something similar under hen. At least that would remove the physical size limitation of trying to fit an adaptor into the vita mem card slot.

thats the sort of thing I'd love to see. Would be even nicer if someone could figure out a way to do it w/o henkaku. You format & put a loader program & games/emulators/music/movies/homebrew on the SD card with your pc then put it into the adapter & into the vita. The vita thinks it's a legit cart & you get a bubble that points to the loader on the sd & the loader does all the work of redirecting information to the subfolders for the emulators, games, etc.

That doesn't work that way.

In order to run unsigned code, you NEED HENkaku.
There's no way around it.

For now, but it can't stay that way forever. We're talking 1 crack into 1 particular firmware. What if Sony gets serious about locking 3.60 out of the PSN or PS3 transfers to 3.60? If everyone is depending on just 1 means of access & Sony does ANYTHING, everyone is screwed.

Still doesn't work that way.
You cannot run unsigned code on a unhacked console, period.

Vita side was hacked before in 3.52 with PSM dev.
If you've read what Yifan has wrote about the security, it can be a really long time before another hack is discovered.

And no, no one is "screwed"
If you want homebrew, get a spare 3.60 Vita and keep on on that.
Nobody is forcing you to update.

I said without henkaku, didn't say w/ unhacked device. I've followed a bit of Yifan's comments & how he didn't just drop everything at once so folk could come to appreciate just how good the Vita security is. A better understanding of how it all works is what it takes to open up new avenues. It can't just come to a stop here & everyone be satisfied as it's "good enough".

I think he's suggesting a solution like a DS flash cart.... where the cart somehow reads as signed, and passes it's os/shell/whatever as the "signed game" and allows you to run backups

said flash cart would have a microSD slot, like the DS equivalent

that being said, it'd just be much easier if someone was able to just build vita style memory for cheap, heh (probably less likely too)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
