If emulators exist I'm there!
I thought hacking made consoles more successful to be honest. Having hacks makes it more appealing to buy.
Though I'm a fan of rom hacks, I like seeing how people manage to alter a game.... for better or worst. Usually someone out there who feel the game isn't hard enough and wanna make it completely a challenged they feel nintendo is too afraid to give someone. Well let me say Nintendo was never afraid to give players a challenge. Super mario lost levels have poison mushrooms, windy weather effects, spring that launch you off screen for 10 seconds and into pits, and warp zones that send you back levels you completed. (Yes I MEAN SUPER MARIO BROS 2 ON FAMICOM DISK SYSTEM WITH NO SAVE OPTION) Zelda 2 adventure of link is brutally hard, and zelda 1 had a second quest much harder, and lets not forget ocarina of time master quest.
Then some find the game too hard and want to make it accessible without feeling like is too easy.
Okay i got off track but basically I like mods for various reasons. All the sonic rom hacks with the Chiptune coded music from other games or just new composed ones is cool, enhanced graphics people thought sega genesis wasn't capable of, how people sure work within system limitations to make it look presentable and playable. That is what i like seeing, putting someone skill and (console hardware capabilities) to the test. MAXIMUM POWER!
Piracy is not the reason why i want hacks, is emulators and rom hacks. Maybe if games was good and worth paying $60 for instead of releasing incomplete buggy broken unplayable.... boring, total flawed and clearly mislead marketed overhyped games, there would be "
LESS" (not none, but less) of that piracy going on. Then again, people like things when is free!
