Well I received mine on ( or around ) the 30 of December after ordering about a month prior. So I was hoping maybe I got one of the last bad ones. Perhaps DaMummy pulled one from a new batch since he got one about a week later that had no issues. Maybe just wishful thinking but in like two months when I get a replacement I will be sure to post whether it works or not.

i've already commented in another thread but would like to add myself to the 'affected list'. if enough people are having issues, maybe the akaio dev team will attempt a patch

i'm assuming its a bad batch of cards, but since old loaders work (i'm using 4.08) i would assume this could be patched in software. is akaio source available? i could take a look.

Lol i wouldn't know how to do that :[
Like some games work
and some don't its sooo weird.
My moonshell runs fine and so does final fantasy tac. A2, but that's about it lol
Some games load up but the main screen is blank/white.

this has stopped the white screen on save for me, but while the sav files are created, they arent accessed by the game - turn off the dsl, and turn it back on, the game acts as as though there has been no progress.

bad batch problem? my acekard 2.1 is new as of this week.

I got my Acekard 2.1 in the mail a few days ago, it shipped from DealExtreme on December 28th.. Official 4.21 firmware gives me a blank screen, AKAIO will work until it tries to write save data. Nice to see other people having the same problem.

AKAIO 1.4.1 didn't for me.. The solution that is working is firmware 4.0.7 on my 8 gig card.

im still trying to figure out why my newly received(jan 7th) ak2.1 works just about perfectly except for some internal names showing up japanese using akaio 1.5.1, but my 2 year reliable acekard rpg is having major problems since ive updated to 1.5.1 akaio. normatt and smiths have disappeared since releasing 1.5.1, damn drunks

Wow.. I've read this whole thread now and it sounds like most of you are having the same problems that I am having with mine.
I got mine around the end of the first week of January, and It came from deal extreme, too. I can't play any of my games, it shows half
the intro screens and then just crashes, and sometimes it will be stuck at the loading screen!

I'm gonna try a different version of the Acekard firmware and see what happens.

Add me to the list here. Been fighting with mine for the past 3 days since I got it from, surprise! DealExtreme!

The games worked fine on mine (including Mario and Luigi 3) and would create a .sav but then wouldn't load it or if the game was reset to the title screen the save would be gone. However I'm doubtful the .sav was created correctly since all of them was 512kb, including when i tried Spirit Tracks which was fixed in 1.5.1

First used AKAIO 1.5.1, then 1.5, then the latest official firmware and now I'm at 4.07a or whatever and that at least retains saves so I can play some older games.

There isn't an internal firmware (like BIOS style) on the card that could be changed or updated right? It just loads the firmware from the microSD card correct?

Oh I can play spirit tracks now but the save size is wrong which I heard causes problems later in the game.

Does that fix the save size? I thought only AKAIO 1.5.1 did that

.......... Seems everyone having the problem got it from DX

Nope. At least two of us got them from MyGamingMart.com. I had 3 out of 3 bad. 1 wouldn't load any firmware at all, and 2 had identical issues with saves as described in this thread.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
