About 1 hour ago I found out that one of my close friends tried commiting suicide. I won't go into detail, but he never has Christmas, and this year his family was actually going to have it. Now that this happened they can't afford presents because they have to pay for his hospital bills. I have about 100 dollars, so what can I buy him for Christmas? What would mean a lot to him? I'm basically trying to send him the message that he is loved, but I don't know how to give him a gift that would express that. Thanks for your help.

He's not that into video games, and is barely at his house. Please don't take this as a joke, I need something tangible.

Is he the reading type? A good book can often be a window into the soul. Although I've never personally encountered it, I've heard that sometimes a book can alter a person's perception of life. For example, maybe you give him a book about engineering, and suddenly he finds a new purpose and decides to become an engineer.

I know, and I will do all of that stuff once I can see him again. I want something to add on to that, and it would mean a lot to him if a bunch of people gave him christmas presents.

Buy some little stuff to go with whatever big thing you're going to get him. Example: for a friend of mine back in the early years of high school, I got him a matchbox car of his dream car (i forget what it was) as motivation for his goal. Things like that would mean alot to me (and give some people more to think about for the future).

I'd find a hot chick that looked like she might be the kind to feel sorry for people that need that kind of stuff and give him the money to do stuff with her. but not a hooker nothing good can ever come of that

EDIT: maybe a sad looking girl that way she can kinda relate

It makes a larger difference if you made the gift yourself. Get some materials and make a stuffed bear for the guy, it usually works

I would get him some sort of friendship thing. Like something that only you 2 would have. I know it sounds a bit corny but nothing says "your my friend" more than having something that only 2 people have in the world!

Not sure exactly what to get em... Perhaps some sort of wallet or ring or something?

Just an idea.

Ain't nothing like a picture of him and you in an expensive frame?
How about a new jacket, or clothing he likes?
Or take him to an expensive restaraunt?

i doubt there's anything you can buy him that will make him feel better. your presence and your support will mean much more to him, or perhaps less depending on his state of mind, than anything that you could buy him.

You will do like this.

First, when you meet him, you say you got plans for the whole day. You will take him to a soccer match, and after that to a restaurant, if you don't have enough money, just take him to McDonalds.
Make sure he doesn't have any plans on that day.

Talk about good things and don't mention the suicide attempt. But give him space, probably feels weird for him. Everyone giving him a lot of attention just because he tried to commit suicide.
He probably wants to move on with his life.

Good Luck

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
