While doing my daily check of the 3DS release lists, I found an entry that caught my eye: Lets.Golf.3D.USA.eShop.3DS-PoWeRUp. Here's a link to the NFO. It seems that another group has stepped up into the eShop dump scene. This development means that we should expect more eShop dumps in the future, as BBB no longer seems to be the only group capable of doing so.

There's only one line from the NFO I linked that worries me: "We are currently looking for skilled individuals interested in making cracktros/demos for our 3DS releases like 0ldsk00l times." Even though it only wastes a couple of seconds in actual use, I HATE it when scene groups attach an intro to releases as a form of dick-wagging. There's a reason that the practice died off during the DS scene. Even the 1-2 DS releases that initially had intros attached to their roms were shortly nuked and replaced with clean versions.

1,000% agreed. Looks like BBB will still be my release group of choice for the most part for eShop titles.

One of the fundamental concepts of the scene is that if something has already been released, another group cannot release it unless there's a problem with the original release (I.e. it gets nuked). So chances are you won't have a choice.

I fully agree about the intros though, it's a really terrible idea and hope it doesn't happen.

It's my understanding that a release of the same title is allowed to nuke an original release if the replacement title is clean (which includes the omission of these egotistical "cracktros"). So is this not the case?

I assume because it happened for the DS scene, it could happen here again, but it'll probably depend on the opinion of other scene groups, and nothing is certain, AFAIK.

Since there's only 2 groups doing eShop games, chances are they won't waste time on doing the same games, they'll work on separate releases. So, who knows.

Best thing is to hope no one comes forward or they find it's too difficult to do it so don't bother.

Or at the very least, one of the members of PoWeRUp will see this thread and realize that the public opinion hates cracktros.

So then your initial comment is based on speculation and not cold hard facts. Chances are I'll have a choice, or chances are I won't. We don't know. But if I have a choice, I'll choose the clean version every time :D

Let's just help nuke those releases if it's not 1:1.

Inserting cracktros on a ROM doesn't make it 1:1 copy right?
tbh all esop rips have been converted so they aren't really 1:1 by nature

i think given BBB's history with "fixing" releases based on a few missing zero bytes, i guess they would probably release propers, but then again the bbb branded pokemon VC games never got nuked....so who knows

I love cracktros. And where did a cracktro'd release ever get nuked when it was in perfectly fine working order? Surely not the real scene. Like ROM collectors matter anywhere...

No, my initial comment was that you won't have a choice of releases because that's not how the scene works. Which is true.

I suppose your seemingly contradictory posts confused me then.

peat: I don't feel like expending effort discussing scene rules. No disrespect, but I'm abandoning that topic of discussion. I really only wanted to express how much I hate cracktros. That's all. :)

Ask and you shall receive.

Exhibit A: GBATemp page about release of Harvest_Moon_DS_Grand_Bazaar_NDS-VENOM, with mention of intro within the first couple posts

Exhibit B: The Advanscene page for Harvest Moon DS - Grand Bazaar, showing that it replaced the VENOM release.

Exhibit C: GBATemp page all about DSROM Intro Removal, citing numerous other games with intros attached to them. An Advanscene search of most of those titles will show that they have also been nuked and replaced with clean versions.

EDIT: It's not about ROM collecting, but preserving the data as close to the original as possible for archival purposes. If proper archiving doesn't matter, then why does No-Intro exist?

Good to see another group joining the 3DSWare scene, like gamesquest1 said though I expect to see BBB releasing propers of the groups releases as usual
Has anyone actually found this ROM on the net though?

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
