Translating the items, magic, menu commands, and other necessities is what I want to do. However, the in-game text, not so much. I just want to know what I'm doing.

When I saw this I thought it was actually a full patch available right away I was about to go crazy lmao. Still though might as well wait until the us release which will be sometime in september.
 
Anyone have any idea how long the hacking will probably take to edit the text files? I really hope something happens with this project and the game is translated. I would be happy with just a Menu/Item Translation since the game is being localized, but if you want to make a full game translation aaniil, I say go for it. This being in full english would be AMAZING.

And actually i found the german text, decompresse with Crystal tile (set flag to 11) for loading text (load/str/ger) anyway the rest seems to use the same compression. But as already said this still would need a custom font (i think) or to find some kind of table file.

And now i need sleep

What? Are you saying the language files are encrypted? Freaking Squenix, can't stop the pirates so they get at us by making the game untranslatable.

If he wants to translate the whole game... let him do so. We don't even know how hard it will be to extract the text of this game so, what's the problem with those guys saying only translate menus or spells...or with those saying that he should wait for the US release?

So, is it really encrypted?
 
When you say it, everything looks so easy. But I'm waaaaaaaay far from being as good as you Darth...(that would be awesome tho!) lol
So it won't matter if i extract it, cause I won't be able to do anything with it.
But... since you are here... and if I'm not bothering you, how can i extract them with crystaltile2...

Edit: Just got crystaltile2 new version. Hoffman compression?? Wow... i don't know much about it but, that's great isn't it?
 
Yes yes replacing the lrd.s.z file in UI/load/str/ja with the one in de,en or whatever changes the language in the Loading screen
 
Is it possible to use the font used in this screen to other parts of the game, in case that a custom font is needed? Sorry about noob questions

If only DS games used C++ or Java...

the code would still be compiled (HINT: you won't understand compiled code), and more than likely encrypted as well. which sounds like the same boat ROM hackers have been in since the existence of ROMs.

it would be worth your time to learn the very basics of how any programming language works. at least if you're going to continue talking like you do know something.
 
So i made some test now repacking seems to work

and the font for Commands and some other stuff needs to be edited (there are 4 different font files where font_jp_08.nftr is the font for commands and so) because there are actually only japanese letters in it (except for some letters) i guess the others are for the Items and so on
 
I've been watching this thread, so thought I'd play around with the ROM. The compression is indeed LZ77, I got it to decompress with gbalzss, but I'm not sure about the integrity of the file, I'll try with some other methods to make sure. I opened my srd.s file, in a hex editor, it's all there, just a bit messy, someone will have to conjure up a character chart file, so we can properly edit it.

You should take a look at the .z files. In them is all of the game text, the .NFTR are just font files. The .z's are easy to decompress, refer to my last post. I'm going to try some stuff out and compile it back into a .nds to see how things went, I'll post back.

First at all gbalzss doesn´t work as you can already see use Crystal Tile 2.
And is nobody reading as i already said the text will not fit and the font (font_jp_08.nftr at least for the commands and everything that uses small letters) needs to be edited
