You won't have cut pins. Those are only on D2Bs. I don't think they're common. You only hear about the problems because nobody makes new threads when it's working

Well all chips besides Wasabi have eject issues at the moment. You really can't tell if your drive will be effected untill the chip is in there. I would say it's about a 5% chance...

Well running the clock wire over the oscilator, gluing one side of the drivechip, but nothing really works. If you got it you got it. The only way to be sure not to get it is getting a wasabi. You'll have to decide if you are willing to take the (small) risk in order to get a cheaper chip...
