Just wondered if somebody could clarify a few things;

I have a switch on 4.0.2, with an SX Pro on its way.
I read about SX 1.1 which 'doesn't burn fuses'.
First of all, why is anything burning anything?
Secondly, assuming I require 5.1 to play the latest games, do I update on OFW now, or do I update with SX 1.1 to 'not burn any fuses'?
Prior to any of the above, should I aim to make a nand backup (or any other specific backups) prior to updating, while I'm at 4.0.2?

Sorry if this 'another one of those threads' but I do honestly search through and didn't find explicit answers I seek.

PS, is there a discord for me to ask this kind of stuff?

They fixed a guess a bug that burned fuses. Nintendo burn fuses to protect the Switch form downgrading to another firmware.
You can do a backup now, and later back. But at the moment there is no advantage to back. There will probably be tools so you can jump around however you please later on.
