Why aren't both the camera holes in the case round? The one on the right is kind of oblong. Is there an LED for a flash over there?

So basically the 3DS checks more than the DSi from the info of carts. For the iEvo, we'll just have to wait for the EU/US launches unless the (J) bootloader is made (Edit): for the DSi mode.

I tested SCDS2, ONE and and R4i (came in a red pack). They didn't even boot up.

Nothing bricked that far!

Did the 3DS show their icons?

yes

I'd say we do have SOME hope then!
I didn't think it get that far.

only dstwo could possibly circumvent security
the others dont have cpu
that is unless some voltage limit is in the slot

The CPU isn't the only way to circumvent security. Go for save game exploits!

Voltage limit would just shoot them in their own foot since certain carts need more power to function (HG/SS, the walker game, etc). If it detects even a slight difference and renders it unusable, Nintendo would receive quite a lot of hate mail

I would like to add that its a developer kit I tested this Friday again! Might be different in the end version OS, but I suppose that even if they would not show the Icon, the DS recognize at least something, so that we can hope for a new FW. of our flashcards.

I will try to make some movies tomorrow for proving my statement, with my iphone cam.

I think the only possible hope of running a flashcart on the 3DS might be the iEvolution, for two reasons.
First that the iEvolution is a new model of flashcart, one that runs in DSi mode.
Second that the iEvolution is a VERY new flashcart, only recently released.

Basically the iEvolution might work because Nintendo haven't developed anything against it.
But the reverse should be true, it may not work because Team Cyclo haven't developed a way to make it compatible with the 3DS.

OH, actually...it does no good to test the iEvolution on a japanese unit, because the iEvolution can only be flashed to work with EU/US DSi systems.
Although there are already EU 3DS systems in the wild, GAME stores across the UK have demo systems, I've played it.

Geez, the guy has a real 3DS in his hands and the only thing you care about is "do DS flashcards work" ?

Well, let me give you an answer:

1. There is no f---ing way DS flashcards would ever work on 3DS in 3DS mode.
2. The possibility of current DS flashcards working on 3DS in DS mode is 0.0000000000000001%. Nintendo isn't stupid.
3. The possibility of DS flashcards being updated and then working on 3DS in DS mode is just a tiny bit higher. But again, if I was Nintendo I would find a way to block them permanently. After all, they would be running on a completely different hardware.

Besides, I guess you all have DS-es and all have finished all the DS games from your collections.
Who wants to play upscaled previous-generation games on a brand new console ?

Too bad the iEvo doesn't have yet a Japanese bootstrap for the DSi mode ...
I guess we will have to wait one month to know if this flashcart is really blocked or not.

Well, let me give you an answer: You don't have a 3DS and you can't answer anything about it.

1. There is no fucking way DS flashcards would ever work on 3DS in 3DS mode. True and nobody ever denied it.
2. The possibility of current DS flashcards working on 3DS in DS mode is 0.0000000000000001%. Nintendo isn't stupid. There is. CycloDSi Evolution might work with a japanese bootstrap. Also, may I remind you of DSi flashcarts working with the DSiXL?
3. The possibility of DS flashcards being updated and then working on 3DS in DS mode is just a tiny bit higher. Tiny bit? Really? Wait till next week.
But again, if I was Nintendo I would find a way to block them permanently. After all, they would be running on a completely different hardware. Sadly, you aren't nintendo. You are some one who is way more stupid than nintendo.

Besides, I guess you all have DS-es and all have finished all the DS games from your collections. What makes you say that?
Who wants to play upscaled previous-generation games on a brand new console ? Me and most other people.

Why is there so much flashcart talk anyway?
Can't you people who think nintendo are idiotic enough to have super-fantastic anti-piracy on 3ds' not talk about how they obviously are going to force updates by streetpass, spotpass, raining wireless update discs from the sky and other ridiculous nonsense, yet they're going to keep your old r4iultragx417X carts working?
Come on.

If you want to ask about carts, then keep it in hacking section. Or wait. It'll obviously be on the frontpage when there are results to be compiled.
Some of us come here to drool over images and videos.

It's already on the main page News section. But the reason why people are interested in flashcarts is exactly the simple thing that do we need something new or will the old things work. Sure the R4isaefasegesg might not work, but there are a lot of different carts around there.

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
