Of course! Always happy to help :)

Won't work, I'm sorry. Currently, there's no downgrade available. I feel ya though. I was in that position before. And after. And before again. Hopefully someday it'll work! Stay on that firmware though!

Okay thanks!! I don't plan on updating this 3ds :)

Hi, I just want to make sure I have everything I need before my Gateway card comes. I did rummage through a lot of these pages but I am unsure. I have a 3ds with 4.5 firmware.

1) With Gateway, I can put many games on a single SD card? Will an 8gb work for most games?
2) I was unclear about the saving the game. It says, backup the save data to your SD card? Not sure what that means.

3) Lastly, How are other users getting their 3ds bricked, by using Gateway?

Thanks

Hey guys, I plan on getting a gateway to play the jpn release of smash bros before it releases elsewhere. So first off my 3ds is on 4.5.0-10E, guessing that's fine, right? So as far as I can tell gateway supports up to 7.x firmware? Does that mean there are new games that need to be on 8.x to work, and if that's the case will smash bros no doubt be one of them? Also will smaller firmware uplates like 8.1 to 8.2 have the same effect, where gateway needs to update in order to play games that need the higher version?

So let me assume that smash bros needs 8.x to play and gateway supports 8.x, would I be able to play the official european release cart? Or lets say gateway doesnt support 8.x in time, would I have to update to nintendos official firmware to play it and effectively disable my gateway?

Oh and, I know its against the rules to ask for roms, but can i ask if there is a site where jpn roms are uploaded on release (or near enough) that exists. If thats still against the rules just ignore me.

Hey, guys.

This is my first post here, so please have mercy on me if this question's stupid and/or has been answered ten billion times already.

Actually I'm from Germany, but I am living in Japan. Lately I thought a lot about getting me a Nintendo 3DS LL (XL in America, Europe, etc.), but sadly the Nintendo 3DS has the infamous region lock, which would prevent me from playing anything but Japanese games. Although I speak decent Japanese, I really would want to play games in English or German. That's why I assume that buying a flash card along with the 3DS might be the best solution. (I don't even have a problem with buying games, it's simply about the language.)
However, there are two important questions:

1. Do flash cards (I planned on getting the SuperCard DSTWO) work on a global scale? Can I use a flash card, which I bought at a German online store for example, with a Japanese 3DS LL?
2. I never owned a Nintendo 3DS, so I'm not sure if this one's still an issue, but I read somewhere on the Internet that Nintendo might be able to track when you're using a flash card and remotely disable the system. Is there really a chance that this might happen when using a flash card and is it higher when being in Japan/using a Japanese 3DS?

Thank you in advance.

1) Games range in size from a few megabytes to 4gb. Most are in the 1-2gb range. So 8gb works. I personally use a 32gb though.
2) Gateway creates save files on the sd card (big one in the 3ds). You can drag and drop those to your computer to back them up. Gateway also has a function to dump saves from your retail cartridge. It might not be too useful though since that save will only work if you dump the game too.
3) 0, since omega was released.

1) DS cards are not region locked. So yes, it works.
2) They might be able to, or they might not. Ninty has never deliberately bricked or banned anyone because of piracy yet. But that doesn't mean they aren't capable of doing so. You have to decide if it's worth the risk.

Interesting question I read elsewhere.

Is Pokebank able to read other region carts.

Example, Euro 3DS Pokebank able to function with JPN Pokemon X/Y?

Anyone with multiple region 3DS and carts can test this?

Using latest firmware...

Thought I'd drop down to ask a quick question, should I bother not to update one of my 3ds' in hopes that gateway might eventually support it? I don't use it much so I don't mind it, just curious If It's worth doing. It's on whatever the last firmware was.

Hi, I bought my wife an R4I deluxe set (yes, I now know I should've bought a Gateway) and I was curious if she could play retail games without updating her firmware with the most recent update? If so, how would I go about this with the R4i? I would like her to be able to play Roms, but also be able to play some of her retail cart without update. She wants to play Rune Factory 4 without updating to 5.1 Thank you in advance ^^

I've got 4.4 on my 3DSXL - is there any point in updating to 4.5 and how would I do it if I wanted to, can it be done from a ROM on a red cart or does it have to be a retail game? (I understand going online would skip all updates right up to the most current?

No real point to go to 4.5. You cannot upgrade system nand with a ROM. Don't even need emunand updates, if you don't plan on going online.

I thought I'd need emunand updates to run game-dumps which require firmware > 4.4 ?

Or are you saying that running a 'new' game-dump ie one released this month, which requires firmware ~7-8 will 'just work' on gateway without emunand at all?

At the moment, no. You can only update to the latest via internet, or with a game cart, if you are under 4.1.

Sorry I meant to put emunand in there. I have a 4.5 3ds, I was wondering if I could update the emunand to 7.x or 6.x instead of all the way to 8.x.

My understanding is that the only way to update (either nand or emunand) is via a wifi connection to nintendo which will force an install of the latest (8) version of the firmware so if you didn't update to 7 when it was available OTA (over the air) then you missed the only opportunity to install it, however I also believe that had you done that you would still not be able to access the eshop without installing 8. I could be waaaay off base here, I'm no expert.
