why do you see the iphone as a whole when the specs change with every generation if epic citadel would have run on a first generation iphone which is only 3 years old it wouldn't even boot. this way iphone gaming would be even more expensive than pc gaming hardware wise

The truth is we don't know anything other than rumours floating around, if you wanna believe rumours lol good luck

To be honest, 3DS doesn't need to be all that powerful, it doesn't a need higher resolution, the screen is small, It was a bigger screen I'd understand but come on its a freaking handheld, low resolution works good enough on it. Consider the fact is a dedicated GPU, no DS had this, this is a big leap, GPU can perfom its own calculations, store textures if the GPU has its own ram. 3DS also supports anti aliasing and advanced shaders!

And just for comparison, the iPhone has a 1GHz CPU, a dedicated GPU, and 512 MB of RAM, and a 960x640 screen compared to 3DS's 800x240.

Or in more real terms the 3DS has 400x240 with 3D.
A much, much lower-resolution display than the iPhone.

*sigh*

iPhone 4 is a smartphone. It has to run an OS and programs in the background. And above all it is not made for gaming. It is not it's primary function

The 3DS is made for gaming. While it is playing a game is doesn't have a (power consuming) OS running in the background. All of its power is used to play the game.

For example:
An Xbox 360 doesn't have 1/3 the processing power of a high end pc and still the graphics of the 360 look roughly the same as on the high end PC

I think it's better if everyone just stops comparing the iPhone and the 3DS.

(I'm a supporter of Nintendo, Microsoft and Apple. I have a Iphone 4, DS lite and Xbox 360, so I'm not choosing sides)

IMO Street fighter IV for iPhone has somewhat nicer graphics than 3DS
Street Fighter IV iPhone
At 0.58 , the image looks nicer than screenshot shown on 3DS of Ryu using hadoken
Anyway i still believe 3DS would be a much better console compared to iPhone
as it has MGS 3D

You know that the iphone version of SF4 uses sprites for the characters and that the ultras are all videos right?

Firstly, they're speculating, they don't have the unit and they seem pretty sore about not getting one.

Second, the iPhone is not built specifically for gaming and has to have all kinds of shit running in the background, which is why it has more power in spite of not having any games which look up to the quality we've already seen on the 3DS.

Thirdly, it's possible for a handheld to be too powerful. If you want a super-high-def battery draining monster, where companies just port a stripped down version of their latest home console game rather than having to create new products taking into account the strengths and limitations of the handheld platform, just wait and I'm sure the PSP2 will be perfect for you.

yes, but take into account the other factors in it, shall we?

For one, i don't know what sort of iDevice he was using, but it ran the game at a rather paltry framerate, compared to the 3D edition, which will expectedly run at at least 30 frames per second.
Also, the 3DS has physical buttons. That alone is more than enough to win me over!

Even if the 3DS's graphical capabilities are a bit lacking compared to the iPhone, I'll still buy it. After all, no matter how much you boast about that Retina display, you still won't find games that stand up to Metal Gear Solid 3 or the Super Mario franchise in the App store.

3DS ‘below’ Epic’s minimum specs

Says new handheld is not powerful enough to run games such as iPhone’s Epic Citadel.

Mark Rein, the boss of developer Epic Games, has stated that as far as he’s aware the 3DS is not powerful enough to port over any version of the studio’s Unreal Engine. This is particularly interesting as Epic’s first iPhone title, Epic Citadel, was released on iPhone last month, blowing away the specialist press with its amazing portable visuals in the process.

A feat, seemingly, that 3DS will not be able to match.

“It's below our minimum specifications, from what we can tell,” Rein told Joystiq.

“We don't have a 3DS, so there's no way for us to verify that but everything we've been led to believe is that it's below our min-spec. You couldn't do a game that looks like Epic Citadel on it, for example.

Hmmm what do you guys think?
Umm have they tried to play Epic Citadel on an iPad and iPhone 3GS? The game is strugling with the frame rate.. Sorry but I won't trust a company that makes games for over 3 games. Experience allways makes you exceed.. I don't believe a word from this guy. 3DS is way more powerful than the iPhone... Sorry but can the iphone show non glasses 3D? Also are there any devent games on Iphone that support 24 online players (like Mario Kart 3DS) Nope! Now scram!

You want me to believe this? You really want to tell me, that SFIV on iPhone, that uses little pre-rendered 2D-sprites (obviously based on the console models) and little videos before the Ultra to give you the illusion of 3D-models look better then the 3DS-version, which uses real 3D-models (and therefor has way smoother animations and the famous dynamic camera).

The 3DS version looks imo, judging it on facts and the video I saw from the TGS of the 3DS-version and from what I play nearly daily on my iPhone, waaaaaaaay better the the IOS-version...

Next you are going to tell me, that RE:4 or D on iPhone look better then RE:R....

Quite honestly... I loled

On top of what you have stated, I wanna include that the 3DS is rendering images 'twice' despite that it is visually out performing the iphone who only renders once. Yeahh babyy

Apple's hardware quality standards are nowhere near Nintendo's current ones, meaning that they use a lot of good, high-end components for the iPhone (of course the price tag is higher), while Nintendo chooses cheap, but also innovative technologies that can be mass-produced for higher profits.

One thing about the iPhone that completely destroys any handheld is its Retina display. That thing is absolutely beautiful. Combine that with IPS (In-Plane Switching) and you have a screen that can rotate to 180 degrees and still be able to view it very well (for example, if you have friends watching a movie or something on the go, the ones at your side - assuming you are holding the iPhone - will still see it clearly). This does NOT happen with the iPod touch, that has the same Retina display, but TN (Twisted Nematic) instead of the IPS technology. This is also why any Apple display (like Cinema Display) have IPS as well and the screen quality and sharpness is amazing.

The Nintendo DS's screen is terrible if you ask me. Even the DSiXL is miles from comparing to the iPhone 4's screen. I can still see the screen on an iPhone pretty well on a sunny day outdoors, but the DS? Forget gaming. The PSP is worse, I must admit, but still...

If the 3DS does not have at least IPS (which I doubt) and better backlit technologies, you can have the best 3D handheld screen in the world (and the only one so far), but it won't mean much if you can't play without having to find shade all the time (if you're outdoors) or escape bright lights indoors.

I am a big fan of both brands, and Nintendo ultimately will win always against Apple because they have a library of better titles that people have grown to love. Plus, the 3DS is meant for gaming, and the iPhone's primary goal is being a smartphone, not gaming. However, when it comes to screen quality, there is no contest. As for specs, the DS has a much lower spec table (I'm not talking about the 3DS) and it still beats the iPhone in terms of gaming experience. It's only natural.

the question is capability, not the profit of, also Apple Store has clearly much more success than NDS market

Yeah, the system that can run Capcom's MT Framework and is capable of running most, if not all modern HD shaders must suck. Instead let's get the followup to a shitty system that no one knows anything about. Brilliant idea you trolling asshat.

Are you high or something? The iPhone has sold more than the PSP...as for games, well the PSP has few good games anyway (I know this because I have one). If I want Sony exclusives, let me buy a PS3...there you go right there.

The future is this (gaming-wise):

1- Nintendo 3DS
2- iOS 4
3- PSP2

Yes, the iOS 4 family beats the PSP2.
