Hey everyone, that Gateway 3DS came! Now, it came with 2 gateways inside, a blue one and a red one.

The blue's shaped to fit a regular DS and i've seen people say it works like an R4? So my question is this: Is this blue cart for 3DS running DS homebrew, or will it work in a Regular DS too? because i've already got an R4, but using it's SD in the Gateway in a regular DS states that DS_MENU.dat cannot be found.

Whether that means it's like a clone cart which can't be updated and i'm using a firmware which is too high i'm not sure, but a little enlightenment would be helpful :) thanks!
Ha! Your gateway card came in today too?! To answer your question: Yes, the blue card can work on a 3ds and a ds console too. It can be used on either console to play ds games/ds homebrew. One thing, install the newest wood firmware on your blue cart using the following firmware:

Download that and drag and drop the file to the root of the micro sd card and put the micro sd in the blue gateway and you are ready to go! If you have any questions or anything is unclear, I would be glad to help, just let me know!

Excellent, yeah I worked out you can use it on both anyways, the girlfriend can have the regular ds gateway because I've got an R4 already :p

What's the difference between the firmware from the gateway 3DS site and the wood firmware? Sure my R4 is running wood firmwarw, but when I do an SD Swap from the r4 to gateway it doesn't recognise the ds_menu haha

I used to be so clue up on this and it's been so long I can't remember much!

Edit: Alsoooo does usrcht.dat still work just by pressing a certain button when the game is highlighted? I'm at work so can't check... Since it is like an r4 and can use wood I'm assuming that's a yes hahaha

I need help pinpointing whatever problem it is I'm having.

I just bought a r4ids 3ds gold deluxe flashcart from my local reseller. He said this version was compatible with the 3ds version I'm running (4.5.0-10E).
I installed the latest wood kernel (v1.64) using the blue card and a newly formatted 32gb sd micro card (two years old).

Then I transferred the launcher.dat from the v2.0 firmware (avaliable from this link: http://r4ids.cn/r4i-download-e.htm) on to the ds' sd-card and went into the system Settings -> Other settings -> Profile -> Nintendo ds profile and got the awaited reboot.
Without turning the 3ds' power off I reformatted the previously mentioned 32gb micro SD and used the win32diskimager tool (also avaliable from the previous link) to write one .3ds-rom on to it. I then put this in the golden cart and inserted it into the 3ds.
At first I see the game pictures and it switches to it but when I hit open I, almost instantly, get a screen saying "The game card was removed" and when I press home it says the 3ds game card slot is empty.

Tried roms are: Zelda: A link between worlds, Kid Icarus and Eternity Odessey IV. All tried after the [Settings -> Other settings -> Profile -> Nintendo ds profile]-procedure.

What is my most likely problem; 2 year old micro sd, faulty flashcard, poorly executed install, incompatible freeware? Something else?
Any help is most appriciated.

Best regards,
Joppe

I have a R4i deluxe and created the Emunand v7.1 on the SDcard and now I have a Gateway. Can I use the existing Emunand that I created with R4i and just replace the launcher.dat with Gateway on the SDcard or do I have to start everything from scratch?

i just had a litttle conversation with gateway ( to aks why it takes so long to release 2.0)...

So they didn't mention anything about the release time of 2.0 final  I guess we'll have to wait for another few weeks :rofl2:

Haha flashcarts wars! Maybe next gateway 3ds releases a virus to target r4i servers causing a nuclear meltdown. As long as they don't take it out on consumers again...

i know its made by normmatt but it looks like GW is saying that he is a member of R4i
Obviously there is no way to conclusively determine if anyone on these forums is a real member of a flashcard dev team (and/or shill) unless they come out and admit it, and back it up with some sort of solid evidence.

The firmware from the gateway site is specifically for the red cart only. I just suggested that you install the wood firmware on the blue gateway card. By the way, the blue card is like an acekard clone or something. I believe that most of what you can do with the r4, you can do with the blue card (as long as you download the wood firmware from the link i just posted since it fixes any compatible issues; acekard runs a clone version of the wood firmware, that is why i suggest getting the other wood.)

I'm sorry, I never dealt with that card before and can't really help you, wish i could. Ask around :)

Wut? Acekard runs a clone version of the wood firmware? You know that Wood is based on the open-sourced kernel of the Acekard RPG and that the AK2i uses a personal kernel called AKAYO which is made by a team not really related to Acekard?

I'm really not sure about the blue gateway; I do know that it's the same card as some clone out there I just forgot which exactly, I pretty much though it was acekard or something like that...

Nope. Acekard was one of the best teams during the past years (until the team disappeared).

Can DLC for 3ds games be purchased via eshop or only through the respective game's menu?
I never really bothered about eshop, because I usually buy my games as retail cards, but I was wondering... Im currently playing Fire Emblem Awakening on my gateway and plan to buy a retail copy, if I see a used copy anytime soon in a local store (or if the price gets reduced) and I would be interested into purchasing a couple DLCs for it maybe now already and use them on my gateway, if possible... so basically
1. can I buy those DLC via eshop? (gateway 2.0b2 with latest emunand) or only via ingame menu? I know that doesnt work on gateway, because it won't go online
2. if I can buy them via eshop, can I use them now on my gateway?
3. can I later use them on my retail copy, when I finally got one?

I know, I could just test and find out myself, but I dont want to use 2.0b2 right now just to find out it doesnt work as I hoped and then maybe get a brick :P
