Majora's Mask 3D gets its own single-screen experience as a custom Azahar fork

It wasn't too long ago we reported on a mod for Ocarina of Time 3D that enabled you to play the game entirely on a single screen. Having just launched yesterday, it turns out Majora's Mask 3D is getting similar treatment, though in the form of a custom Azahar fork. When launching the game through this fork, you'll have access to an entirely new HUD, a 16:9 aspect ratio, alongside the changes from Project Restoration, and a bunch more.

You can find a full overview of what's on offer listed below:
  • Gear, Masks, Items, and Map accessible all through one screen with item models and descriptions preserved
  • Full Bomber's Notebook functionality on one screen
  • Song menu, song of double time, and give item menus accessible on one screen
  • File select and options on one screen
  • On-screen minimap (hold ZR and press SELECT to hide or show it)
  • Project Restoration features (https://restoration.zora.re/)
  • Redesigned HUD elements (smaller and wider textboxes, thicker magic bar) meant to emulate a console-like experience
  • HUD scaling, positioning, spacing, and visibility controls
  • Difficulty options (damage multiplier, adjustable red potion, blue potion, and bottled fairy healing, no heart, rupee, fairy, or magic drops, disabled ammo pickups, rupee loss or moon crash on death, and doubled purchase prices)
  • Widescreen, increased FOV, and slider to adjust camera distance
  • References in text to the bottom screen and other 3DS specific features have been replaced with any new controls for a more console-like experience
  • Correct rupee sounds for HLE audio (for the first time through a 3DS emulator!)
  • Pause menu background image adapts to resolution (3DS/emulators default to 240p)
  • Correct bloom lighting at higher resolutions
  • Custom texture support
  • Many other minor changes in camera and HUD elements
For those interested, the following AI disclosure was provided.

AI Disclosure said:
AI was used extensively for the purpose of identifying each element the game renders and allowing repositioning, scaling, and transforming of them from the bottom screen to the top screen. This project otherwise would not have been feasible for me to do as the game is not yet decompiled and changes have to be done at the assembly level. However, all repositioning/scaling of the elements for a clean interface was done by me and required a lot of forethought in terms ofhow the layouts should look. For those unwilling to try this project because of this, please play the recompilation which is also an excellent way to enjoy this game.

If you want to try this for yourself, you can find both the GameBanana and GitHub pages linked below. Be aware however that at the time of writing, no source code is provided in the repo.

My brother in Christ have people relied so much on AI that they felt the need to use it on a simple HUD mod??????? People out here acting like coding was impossible prior to Claude. Into the trash it goes
Shut up about this already. It's getting annoying to see these posts in every thread which contribute nothing. Just don't use it.

At this point an actual patch to apply to the game would have been miles better.
Agreed, it would be much easier to maintain because the game (well, this version of it) doesn't receive updates and only exists for one platform (the 3DS)
Azahar exists for many platforms and maintaining this mod for all of them and keeping it up to date would be a nightmare...

I don't want to have a separate copy of an emulator just to play one game.

I haven’t actually checked to see if this is the case, but it being a custom emulator could mean it’ll support the rando. That’s one area I still don’t think the OoT3D patch has support for yet.

As a whole the most ideal solution is a patch with source available for these kinds of integrations though. Either way, still nice to see these things. You can kinda work around the whole emulator for one game problem by using a front end to sort all of that out for you.

I think the better question is, how many PC monitors support display technology compatible with 3DS.
We have glasses free monitors.

My handheld pc has a glasses free 3d screen, tho useless for pc gaming if you dont buy games off steam.

Its 2D-3D AI mode acts like running 2 displays thus causing game frame rates to drop so low, its pointless.

Cant comment on its normal function as it only works with games purchased off steam and I don't use steam.

Its AI 2D-3D however is good for emulation, so this should run great with it.

Move along then. You're tired of people slamming AI? Boohoo, don't support AISlop then. This used to be a site for human made work. Not low quality AISlop. Did you have ChatGPT write your reply?

I'm tired of having to read regurgitated shitposts day after day. I don't care what it's about, it's just spam at this point. We get it, you hate AI. Now shut the hell up.

Edit:
I looked at your post history. Normally people who do nothing but bashing projects or other users all day would have their posts removed and account banned, but I guess since it's anti-AI talk, staff are too afraid to do anything because they don't want to be seen as AI-promoters even more than they already are.

I however don't give a shit. Spam is spam.

Most importantly, you would be able to play this mod on real hardware.
I don't know why you would, but yeah, I guess you could :P
Maybe if you have a broken bottom screen I guess I could see a use for it. Replacement screens are pretty cheap though I think.

I haven't tried this out but I assume the bottom screen would just be empty. So if you could play that on real hardware you'd just have a second screen doing literally nothing other than consume battery power.

Though, if there was a ROM patch version of this or somebody made one, I'd like to see a option to move menus to the top screen but keep the map and HUD on the bottom. So you don't need to use the touchscreen to change items and what not, and it could be a good way to play on real hardware.
I never liked having to take my hand off the buttons to change items, even if it might be slightly faster it feels like more work.
And since I like to have the map always visible I have to continuously switch between the item and menu screens, when I could just as easily be pressing a button to bring up the item screen instead, and have the map always visible.

We have an old Arabic saying : "The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on".Wait until i finish my Fire Emblem GBA project...

Neat concept, still would rather play the N64 version. Still have my gold holographic cart too.

For the AI disclaimer:
If you feel the need to preemptively defend your decision to use AI, then expect people to bitch about the usage of AI.

*Edit
Also why no patch file? This would work on actual hardware, and a delta diff is much easier to manage long term than an emulator-specific mod.

The problem though is that people will bitch no matter what. AI disclosures exist so that people can just click away. But they insist on bitching anyways. There really is no winning.

Yeah controllers just don't work on this out of the box, despite having tried many standard ones like the Xbox controller. The fact that it's its own fork of Azahar is a red flag too. GBATemp shouldn't be so quick to promote these vibecoded mods that are vomited every single day. Some of them are responsibly done and work well, but this one is a mess.
