Hi,
sorry for the vague title, my question is: is the circle pad in the original 3ds the same as the one in the new 3ds XL? my original 3ds's circle pad is so much smoother than my new 3ds XL's circle pad and I'd like to swap them.

*DISCLAIMER* I'm talking about the actual sliding joy-stick on the inside of the 3ds, not the rubber-coated piece on the outside.

Thanks!

just to be sure, you mean the pad on the left, yes?
they shouldn't be much different between those two really.
i mean, your old one could be a little less resitant simply because you used it for a long time already?
but if your new one feels like its harder to move in one direction than in another, then something could be wrong with it. like dust and grime

Yes, the one on the left. I've played AC:NL for over 250-ish hours on this 3ds and the circle pad has never worn in, it was like this out of the box, I wouldn't say it's hard to move But I wouldn't say it's smooth. I've tried soaking the piece in soapy water, oiling it but I've had no luck so if it's possible I'll just swap it out for my old circle pad.

UPDATE: I decided to find out myself and discovered that no, they aren't compatible. the original is just a tiny bit bigger so it won't fit.
Side note: holy crap the original 3ds has a lot of screws.

"For the most part the connectors are not interchangeable." Thank you google.

Don't know how married parts are depends on make and what not

Plus it could be an entirely separate fuse blow on the lcd controller board so hard to tell unless you really want to invest time and making constant small purchases

I just want to tile my wall with all the old monitors my company keeps throwing out and plug them to a single video source.

You can connect any screen panel to any mobo but you need a signal converter.
  • Veho @ Veho:
And that's too much work for me.

A tv should be an easy fix as long it's not physical display damage

Yeah that's why people are like fuck it and spend another $350 on new tvs or monitors lol

It's an easy fix but it's the headache of actually figuring out what's wrong

flatpanel tv's cost significantly less than they used to, and they keep getting bigger and better

I had wanted a sony bravia xr i saw last , still at $>7k
  • K3N1 @ K3N1:
I've seen 50" oleds floating around for $800 but for a main TV oled still doesn't sound that good cause burn ins
  • ZeroT21 @ ZeroT21:
led have much more heat i suppose if they can cause burn in, or is the fragile parts used to make them on purpose
  • K3N1 @ K3N1:
    Isn't lcd different from led
  • K3N1 @ K3N1:
Or oled more burn in prone to qled
  • ZeroT21 @ ZeroT21:
the newer led variation are just much smaller
  • Veho @ Veho:
LCD is different from LED and OLED.
  • Veho @ Veho:
LCD/TFT don't emit light on their own, they just filter color they have to have a backlight. LED/OLED panels emit light.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Backlight can be one giant light panel with a diffusor, but recently there's mini/micro LED backlighting, where you can control the light level for smaller areas of the screen, to get better contrast and color range.
  • ZeroT21 @ ZeroT21:
yeah, lots of lcd panel tech usually have the dead backlight issue making owners think it's completely dead
  • Veho @ Veho:
And those backlights can get burn-in themselves.
  • ZeroT21 @ ZeroT21:
i fixed my previous tv twice already, 1st time was power supply defect and 2nd was dead backlight, just ordered some parts after butchering it open
