the USB connection is a must have for the full use of the FPGA. [Debug]

^ I never realized that. Which ones allow full access to the FPGA like the DS-X does?

Any.

In fact, you'll see that the Actel ProASIC 3 is a VERY common FPGA in the modchip and flash cart world.

You could theoretically put a DS-X port into the CycloDS Evolution. (The Evo Blacks, though, have a smaller FPGA than the whites. They went from 250 LE's to 60 LE's.)

The true question, though, is... Does the DS-X even utilize the FPGA for something other than flashing LEDs?

this isnt the old beta but until the team makes an official announcement using this will void your warranty.

I just saw this statement made by the moderator Rabid1 over on the DS-X forum.

Does it fix save compatibility with Professor Layton? Because the saves are getting erased every time I play it (not that I care too much, though, I have an R4).

layton worked with 1.1.2 for me (arm7 fixed) and does work with 1.1.3 (not arm7 fixed) aswell, i didn't have save probs with either of those 2 firmware versions with layton.
jackkill:np, i just thought ppl might find the new firmware a bit easier if it was a topic for itself

A couple of requests to anyone already with 1.1.3 beta:

1. Is it possible to disable save compression?
2. Please play Pokemon Ranger, SAVE, reboot and try to load your save. Then reboot, play a different game & save, reboot and try to load the Pokemon Ranger save again.

Thanks in advance.

Still no answer.

I went ahead and installed the firmware, not too worry about the warranty. All my savegames work, no more need for arm7fix and the savegames seems to be stable.
I never thought I would say that but I'm happy with the new firmware, it does the basic, nothing fancy but everything works, the flashing took about 1 second, pretty fast for 8 months of work

I will report if I have any problem, seems pretty safe, who cares about the warranty since most users are banned anyway! It's been more than a year anyway, no way I would ever go through support for help, I rather just throw it in the garbage.

Come on people, there's nothing to lose! Works just fine, it's just a bugfix.

No matter how good this update might or might not be, its a little bit to late for them to try and save the reputation of the rip off ds-x and ineptness of their development team.

You don't need to think about this as a way to save their reputation. You can think of it as a way to stop having to arm7fix everything.

Since you practically cannot buy a new DS-X anymore, I actually think it's kinda generous to put out an update.

And you're still too chicken to try it yourself. If there was a chicken emoticon, I'd insert it now.

I played Ranger, sat through all the BS until I could save in the first town. Saved, powered down, started Brain Age 2, did my daily training, powered down and rebooted into Pokemon Ranger again and loaded up from my save.

Heh, the fact is you didn't try it either, probably because you didn't understand what I was asking for. Don't be afraid of your limitations

(luckily there's an emoticon for you) and don't worry, linkycat just tried it for us. Thanks linkycat!

Well, I don't think there is a way of bricking (to an unrecoverable state) the ds-x, if something happends, you just get the repair tool and install 1.1.2 again, even rabid himself said there is no way of completely brick your ds-x by software means
you won't even loose your warranty cause i doubt anyone would know the difference...
