Hello everyone!
How are you all doing?
I’d like to share with you my latest texture-upscaling project: Jeanne d’Arc!
I'm a nerdy experience/interface/visual designer by trade, so I put all my skills into play in this project - I hope you enjoy my work!
Let me know in the comments below if you have any issues or find any problems in the texture pack. Looking forward to hearing your opinions/suggestions!
If you like this project and want to support me, you can buy me a coffee
https://ko-fi.com/robynoobHOW DO I USE THE TEXTURE PACK?
Just follow these simple instructions:- Download the file from this link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ommcigdr8ensza2/JeanneDarc_NTSC-U_UCUS98700_v1.zip/file
- Unzip the downloaded file using a program like 7zip
- Copy the UCUS98700 folder into the PPSSPP/memstick/PSP/TEXTURES/ folder
- Start PPSSPP, go to Settings > Tools > Developer Tools and put a tick on Replace Textures
- Don't forget to increase the rendering resolution: go to Settings > Graphics > Rendering Resolution and select the resolution that best matches your screen resolution (e.g. 4x PSP if your screen is HD 1920x1080, 6x PSP if your screen is 2K 2560x1440, 8x PSP if your screen is 4K 3840x2160)
- I also recommend turning off the internal upscaler: go to Settings > Graphics > Texture Scaling and set Upscale Level to off
- Load the game in PPSSPP and launch it
- Have fun!

- Download this file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/j89jpy0m6tin3o6/original_PSP_fonts_for_PPSSPP.zip/file
- Copy the font folder into the PPSSPP/assets/flash0/ folder (replacing the existing one)
- Start PPSSPP and play.
WHAT'S THE GAME LIKE?
Jeanne D'Arc is a critically acclaimed tactical role-playing game developed by Level-5 (Dark Cloud, Dragon Quest, Professor Layton, Ni no Kuni, Yo-kai Watch and many others) and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) in 2007.The gameplay is inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics/Tactics Ogre. There is a world map that is a semi-historical reproduction of France. Each location leads to cutscenes and/or battles. Battles are turn-based and take place on a square grid. The characters move on this grid and then perform actions such as attacking, using items or skills. Upon defeating an enemy, the characters acquire experience points and sometimes items. The game also includes some unique gameplay systems: a rock-paper-scissor system of affinities (Sol, Luna and Stella); the "Burning Aura", which forms on the space behind an attacked enemy and empowers any ally moving into it; the "Unified Guard", which reduces the chance and damage of a received hit if a characters is in proximity of allies; magical armlets and gems that allow some characters to transform temporarily and become more powerful.
The plot is a fictionalized retelling of the Hundred Years' War and of Joan of Arc's story. France and England are engaged in a prolonged war for control of France's territories. The Duke of Bedford, regent of England, makes a pact with the leader of the demons, letting him possess his nephew king Henry VI in exchange for providing the English with demon soldiers. It is up to Jeanne (Joan of Arc) to accept the power of a magical armlet to banish the demons and free France from the invaders.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE WITH THE TEXTURE PACK?
This is a video of gameplay showing the first 20 minutes of the game with the texture pack installed:Here are some screenshots comparing the vanilla version of the game and the version with upscaled textures:
HOW WERE THE TEXTURES UPSCALED?
I upscaled all the textures that weren't part of the user interface using AI/machine learning techniques:- ESRGAN 4x HDcube 4 Plus A - for most textures
- ESRGAN 4x PixelPerfect v4 - for special effects
The character portraits required some extra work reassembling/disassembling the images before and after upscaling them:
I spent most of my efforts on the user interface (interface text, icons, frames/boxes, etc.). I manually recreated all UI textures on Adobe Illustrator and exported them in 8x resolution

I tried to imitate the original style as much as possible.
Unfortunately, all the text shown in conversations and some of the text shown in menus/battles couldn't be upscaled, as it uses a system font and PPSSPP dumps a separate texture for each character. However, in all other cases, I used the original font (FOT-マティス Matisse Pro).
I replaced the button icons with those from the Xbox controller.
Some icons are from game-icons.net
