  • Thank goodness there is more social sensitivity to bullying and harassment these days, and it's easier to get help. It used to be that people would pat you on the back and say, "that's life, you have to fight back, stand up for yourself."....
    The Real Jdbye
    The Real Jdbye
@Nikokaro I meant online bullying... And I agree that it should be easy to ignore. But some people really have a way of finding people's weak spot, and there have been many suicides as a result of online bullying.
    The Real Jdbye
    The Real Jdbye
In a way, it's more serious than real life bullying... Because at least you can't be bullied in real life when you're at home, at least you get an escape, but if you already have real life issues (can be unrelated to bullying) and the Internet is your escape, and you have online bullies following you everywhere and shit talking, what are you supposed to do then?

@The Real Jdbye You're right. I don't know what's worse. But at least online you don't get beaten up, and you don't risk losing an eye, as happened to me many years ago. Psychological wounds hurt, but if they add up to physical wounds it's a hell with no escape.
Among the various clones of this site I found a shady, bizarre (and outdated) "*modsnip*". Don't you dare to buy your medicines there; they are far from "safe" and will certainly be counterfeit (definitely toxic, to boot). I say this for your own good. And don't say I didn't warn you!!! 🤣

Thanks to censorship by the staff, this post of mine no longer makes sense and is no longer funny (not that anyone laughed at it before 😢).

Those sites aren't funny in the first place. They are parasites trying to steal traffic and money (ads) – in the worst case they fish for passwords.
Search engine indexing GBAtemp would give them more and more importance if the names (or even links) can be found here often.

I never said those sites were funny, but I was hoping my post would be.😅
I was surprised to notice that english seems to have very few swear words to indicate "stupid things", and often when necessary I find myself forced to repeat those few banal terms, while in Italian we have a whole, special vocabulary dedicated only to these, which are numerous, rich in nuances and suitable for every occasion and for all seasons. Which says a lot about my people... 😣 😂 🤣

You think so? I just threw in "rubbish" and "nonsense" in LibreOffice thesaurus for US-English. It answered:
Rubbish → folderol, tripe, trumpery, trash, wish-wash, applesauce, codswallop
nonsense → bunk, nonsensicality, meaninglessness, hokum

I'm sure there is more. Love thesaurus! Look up similar terms for "stupid" yourself. Too many…
    Nikokaro
    Nikokaro
I actually didn't know many of these: good to know, for future reference. ;) But they certainly won't be so many as to make up a vocabulary. In certain "serious" matters, we Italians are unbeatable, and we brag about it, to boot. :D

Swearing in Spanish is too, pretty big.
I too am surprised by the lack of swear words in English (unless you count slurs from other entities that happens to speak English)

This is why I mostly fucking use fucking swear words because they don't fucking mean anything to me.
One thing that regrets and amazes me (not so much, really) is how many users here, especially young english natives, don't care at all about syntax and punctuation: all an amorphous pile of words one after another, without capitalization, commas etc. Lazy, sloppy and unkempt here, as in daily life, I suppose. It seems rather the foreigners who hold up the value, style and quality of the english language.

Personal communication between friends (knowing each other’s ways of expressing) aside, I think it is disrespectful to not invest effort into your messages posted online (public). “I’ll just puke something here, saves my time – even if the reader has to guess the meaning with a lot of effort/time.”

My English is far from perfect and error free. At least I try making my posts readable for anybody.

Rules and arbitrary contradict each other. Arbitrary is just writing without paying attention to any kind of form/rules/standard.
Not saying an online post must be high literature. It must be universally understandable – and many forms of arbitrarily, rapid-changing (NOT evolving!) "internet-lingo" fail hard at this.
This is my last reply on this. The 420 char limit is aggravating.

If I can infer mood from loquacity (in writing, of course) I'd say you're in a good mood today. ;)
Since you've had the last word on the subject, I can have the staff close this post to subsequent replies. 🤣
German friends, take a hard look at yourselves. The past is not far away; it is content in the present. Karma will follow you like a shadow, yours and that of your ancestors. Do not look away, do not point to others: look within, and remember. This concerns you (and us as well).

Different context, but nevertheless true. People are suffering and dying right now in the name of health and their number (not recorded in any statistic) will grow, maybe exponentially for some time.

@KleinesSinchen ,I wrote this post on the day of remembrance (of the holocaust) but it went completely unnoticed (for a change ).
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
Not needing a special day for this. Please remember the topic all the time! If people actually did this, we wouldn't go into that direction again.
People are reducing the topic on guys in brown uniforms with swastikas shouting: "Heil Hitler!"

Well, that is not gonna happen again (only a few morons will do that). I comes differently with the same or worse outcome.
When I see someone drowning in doubts, uncertainties and inhibitions, I can't help but............ give him the coup de grace, pushing him further down, to aggravate his condition, to the extreme consequences: social death...........but liberation from roles, masks and his conditioning, true healing (but not for society).
"Only the humans, the human intellect are/is able to fundamentally change their planet and therefore their basis of life. Other lifeforms don't do that (endanger their future survival)"

Would you agree to this? :creep:
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
The reason for this profile post was once again the "Power of Now" book (finished it five minutes ago). A similar statement about humans/human intellect was used at a few points in a chain of arguments – to underline the unnatural way of (human) life. Using a wrong argument in a chain undermines the proof (sorry – I studied maths).
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
Not saying that our lifestyle is good. Quite the opposite. Our intellect brought us luxury at the price of endangering all life. No matter if looking at this from the cognitive or emotional (spiritual?) perspective: Continuing this way (pollution) is wrong. Earth, all life (including us) is too valuable to destroy it – no matter if with thermonuclear war or with runaway greenhouse effect or with other methods.

[picks up the trash in my room] ok. I did my part.
I noticed with great displeasure that the background/image I had set up on my profile (sakuras) was removed. I thought it was a kind reward for all my contributions (retro-reviews, tutorials, beta-testings, tips, advertising with my mere presence, etc.) What a disappointment! Too bad!!

Not "not noticed"; I can't see any of the profile background images because of the adblock filter
    ||gbatemp.net/data/profile_banners/*
I've also set the accessibility option to not apply custom colors on profiles.

    The less "eye-candy", the better.

See, I'm actively supporting the site with money – previously on Patreon, now through the built-in account upgrades. I sent them $54 on day 1 of the new upgrades for a year. Not because of "patron perks" (never set a picture, never set colors), but to make a statement: There must be another way to fund a site besides ads!
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
My network is protected (sic!) by Pi-hole, my browsers have uBlock origin and uMatrix (or NoScript) as general protection against malicious scripts, malvertising and to get rid of ads.
Using GBAtemp that much for free doesn't feel right with those blockers shredding their source of income (opposed to other sites they didn't implement anti-adblock scripts).
Never noticed this before. Years and years of using my trusty LCD based TrekStor e-book reader 3.0. This device is made for "The Power of Now"
Sorry for the bad picture. My camera doesn't handle low-light very good. And it doesn't handle LCDs very good. Combine it and you get this:

It's no coincidence that you notice it right now as you read that book: it's what psychoanalyst C.G.Jung calls "synchronicity": an event dictated by the Unconscious, manifesting simultaneously inside and outside (a fact you would hardly accept :P).
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
Of course this is no coincidence. When reading a book on that topic which repeats this phrase over and over again... how could I miss it on the splash?
    Nikokaro
    Nikokaro
Jung states something more radical and incredible. E.g. You're passionate (obsessed) with ancient Egypt and its culture, and "coincidentally" everywhere you go you see lizards (mini-crocodiles) on walls, cockroaches (like beetles) pestering you, greyhounds (like Anubis) regularly crossing the street with their masters, etc.
    Happy New Year Nikokaro!
I'm happy that I met cool guys this year.

Hope to keep seeing you around next year and many more after it.
Wish you the best of fortune in every aspect of your life today, tomorrow and everyday.

    😋
Am a quarter into the book. Oh my… He is constantly contradicting himself (and forbids any form of critique – because it would be identifying oneself with the intellect). Heavy usage (abuse) of circular reasoning. Pointing out why [statement] is wrong and doesn't work is overruled by "You did not truly do […]"
Calling evaluation/assessment the problem itself is a neat method to protect the own doctrine…
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
…while protecting other habits (opinions) is just the intellect "protecting itself from getting identified/detected" in order to prevent enlightenment.

Constantly attacking the reader ("it is just the reader who feels attacked and must overcome this to get on higher spiritual level"). You, identifying with your intellect, the not true self, are the problem.
    KleinesSinchen

Any objection is invalid (saying this is wrong of course). Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi.

We won't come to an agreement on that book, but I will read it till the end. I'd like to thank you for your recommendation. It is important to evaluate completely different points of view instead of insisting on the own opinion no matter what.

I'm glad you feel compelled to read it to the end, even if it doesn't fit with your thinking and your way of being (your Weltanschauung ;)).
It is very appreciable and praiseworthy that you want to understand, and that you want to confront a view that you do not share; it is a credit to you.^_^
Anyway, best wishes for a happy new year.
No matter how boring, or even worse painful it may be, the present moment is the only, true reality. Forget the past, don't anticipate the future with your imagination. Reside as much as possible in the "here and now"; stay grounded in it, and in the long run you will become strong, stable, resolute and confident...
:)Merry Christmas to all users, tempers, gamers, hackers, developers, trolls, necroposters; to my straight, homo, trans and whatnot friends and to all the staff, and also to those who actually deserve a lecture, a spanking, or worse; hoping that the Christmas Spirit will give, especially to some, a little common sense, respect and love for others and extinguish their selfishness, frustration and pent-up anger.;)
I always thought that GBATemp meant TEMPLE where the sacred GBA was worshipped; instead I am told that it comes from the less evocative and more prosaic term of TEMPORARY GBA. Alas, this is a bit of a disappointment ....one among many, to boot. :wtf:
I just made the incredible discovery that KiVan, the founder of this site, studied in the same University of Milan as me and in the same period; he did technical studies while I did humanistic ones. 😁

While I was breaking my back studying , he was playing, hidden in some dark room, with his friends with the first, rudimentary gba flashcarts and distributing online roms all over the world...I was so close to a living legend but unfortunately I never noticed anything...🤣
Terror and Horror comes to mind, when you find, that there is no more TP, and you're still not done. :ohnoes::angry:
Some people here, when it comes to trifles and silliness, come out of nowhere and pull off some of their best bullshit. Instead, in front of a serious fact or an user suffering that breaks in here, they look the other way and keep well away from it, as if it did not concern them....

I was referring to the general atmosphere, not a particular fact. I'm mainly addressing some users...the ones who, after reading the first line, will yawn, will stop reading and will go back to playing, without thinking too much about it.

Of course, I didn't mean to scare or threaten anyone.
Mine was a benevolent, friendly slap, to awaken to the reality of life. To make it clear that without compassion, solidarity, togetherness and mutual cooperation, we will get nowhere. Advice from someone who is almost halfway there. 😉
A direct confrontation, an explicit criticism or a blatant offense, are always better than that heartless, cowardly, underhanded and ill-concealed attack that is called indifference (or snobbism) and that most pretend not to see, tolerate or condemn in words but exercise (hypocritically) in fact. This is really about you. 🧐

That emoji represents a "thinker of suspicion"; that's how we define Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Freud and other philosophers (mainly germans:wink:) who point out and criticize the socially prevalent hypocrisy and falsehood. :teach:
