Good. You responded seriously today. What a surprise! And you talked a little bit about yourself. I'm glad you did. I wonder what you meant by "both of them"...hehe.

This is a controversial saying by England's greatest thinker. It is an exaggeration. I do not agree with it fully. It can be misunderstood. It needs to be discussed.

They are not random topics, but moral and psychological subjects by authors I know well, mostly eastern thinkers, but not only. These are opportunities for confrontation and discussion. But many make a joke and leave...hehe.

We had very few good teachers in the sense of moral, integrity, fairness -- few teachers with conscience. Most of them were arrogant, self-centered and had the sensitivity of a sledgehammer in psychological things.

From the perspective of skills and knowledge in their subject many of them (not all) were good -- this is much more than can be said from today's average teachers here.

You mentioned one of my favorite books, and I didn't realize it. All his books and short novels prior to Siddhartha are my preferred, where the author is influenced by the melancholic and sentimental atmosphere of German Romanticism:...

You have interpreted the text in your own way, that is, you have distorted it.
To die to what concerns yesterday is not to die; it is just the opposite, to be reborn in every moment, to be always young and ready for anything, always open to new things. The center of the discourse is awareness, constant and uninterrupted, without judgment or condemnation.

I think the author mainly criticizes complaining internally, in the mind, brooding, not with other people.
On complaining to others, but rationally, constructively, I fully agree...

...As for me, I don't entirely agree here : "leave the situation or accept it."
I would have rather said, "take action to change the situation; if you can't, accept it and think no more about it." Hard to reason in generalities. You need a concrete example.

"Hard to reason in generalities. You need a concrete example."
That is what makes short statements on complex topics so problematic. The quote is not outright wrong, just missing context. Complaining, speaking out can be good and helpful, useless or counterproductive depending on the example.
