Steam Deck can now be purchased without reservation, Dock is now available

Valve released a video today announcing they will be removing the wishlist for the Steam Deck, and will now be converting to a full-on purchase instead of a reservation list. This means anyone interested can now make a purchase directly of their preferred version of the Steam Deck right away, without waiting for a confirmation on any kind of reservation.

Not only that, but alongside this announcement, Valve also shared the news that their long-awaited Dock Station for the Steam Deck is now available as well.
People interested in purchasing a Steam Deck directly can visit Valve's Steam Deck official website, and for those who already have a Deck and want to get the official dock for it, they can purchase the dock in the website as well.

More than likely gonna get the dock, how I believe the bigger news is that nobody has to wait an obscene amount of time now between placing the order and recieving the deck.

There are lots of cheaper docks, I bought the JSAUX one myself. Unlike Nintendo, Valve don't care about forcing you into buying their proprietary products. There are advantages to the official one, however, such as easy firmware updates via Steam Deck and multi-monitor support/support for higher refresh rates.

Yeah actual displayport and being able to push 1440p/120 out of that and HDMI simultaneously is a differentiating factor. Although I'm not sure how useful/necessary that is for most Deck users, I don't think game mode can even use multiple displays?

For emulation purposes, for instance wii and ps2, aren’t the aya neo units better? I’m not too familiar with how specs effect emulation but i seem to recall reading aya neo being better for emulation, and the deck better for running pc titles.

That can only mean sales have slowed down. The next step will be prices going down, hopefully.
it took them 4 months to catch up to all of the orders placed in the first day, the reservations have always been pretty low after the first wave of pre-orders. the manufacturing is just soooooo slow that it took them an eternity to catch up

They have other countries to sell to and retail shelves to consider before they have to go anywhere near lowering prices. Especially the low-end one isn't budging, that stuff is already ridiculously cheap for what you get. Look at the price on literally every equivalent handheld PC and it's near double or more.

If it comes with all the needed cables and AC adapter the price does make sense in the long run.
Though dropping 95 for a dock feels a bit rough a cost.
Would be nice to have a cheaper official option perhaps.
Hopefully it stays in stock and eventually gets a sale.
I want one but not bad enough to drop 95 dollars on just for a dock even if it comes with an AC adapter as part of the cost.
Do wish it had some USB ports up front for charging controllers or the like but I guess a USB hub and a 3D printed stand would do the trick too.

Remember when the Switch dock was sold for 90 dollars separately?
I forget if that one came with an AC adapter or not.
Certainly didn't have USB 3 ports.

Less shortages on components so more units are available.
Considering the quality of this handheld and the market so far, expecting a price drop is very unlikely.

Come on, 400 to 600€ is a very good deal for people who don't give a **** to home console/PC and dumb phones.
The amount of games it runs, the speed and stability of the OS are outstanding. Mouse is laking compared to GPD Win though, but configuration is always the key.

I wonder if they're even going to discount the OG Steam Deck if the inevitable beefier (and more expensive by default) SDv2 is in the works. Valve did go on record that they were surprised that the 512gb model was the bestseller out of the bunch, and that will influence the direction of any hardware revisions quite significantly, looks like. I don't regret paying full price, for what it's worth.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
